    Can't Run....Can't Hide

Can't run or hide? Okay. Then I fight. I'm quite stubborn. XD

Why call the great mystery 'God'?

So, by that logic, the Torah is just a lawbook. The end. IOW, the Torah absolutely the exact same as all other lawbooks and codes throughout all history, ancient, medieval, and modern; and all cultures, Eurasian, African, and American. All the same with nothing whatsoever unique about them...

    Nationalism?

I don't. I actually came up with that argument myself. I've never seen anyone else make it in this context.

Why call the great mystery 'God'?

Quite a simple story for such a long book. And yet the single letter 道 is anything but simple. Just like the Dao De Jing. It's not a lawbook; it's more of a book of meditations and reflections (at least that's how I perceive it.) In any case, the yin/yang dichotomy didn't originate in the Dao...

I think about God all day

Yes, this is true. However, when it comes to logical inquiry, the default assumption best taken in the absence of anything is 0 (false/off/innocent) unless demonstrated to be 1 (true/on/guilty). Pretty sure Sun, Earth, Sea, and Moon exist. ;)

Why call the great mystery 'God'?

Can you understand the whole Torah and what it means with just the first few chapters?

Sci Fi....What's It Done For You?

In terms of fantasy, a lot of my unattainable ideals are influenced by those presented in Sailor Moon. XD

Why call the great mystery 'God'?

Keep in mind, guys, that the word 道 doesn't translate very well into English. "Way", as in "path" is just one of its many meanings.

    The Green Man: Neolithic Deity

If there ever was such a story, I suspect it would predate our species.

Why call the great mystery 'God'?

While I am a theist, I don't really deify the "Great Mystery". The Gods I honor aren't (usually) that mysterious anymore; we by and large know the physical processes that produce the deified phenomena. If there's any inspiration I've taken from D&D with regards to my views on the Great Mystery...

Candles and Fire in the World's Religions

In the Weonde Song, a spell that's meant to hallow a place for worship accompanied by certain actions, written by Swain Wodening, the text reads (in a rough Modern English translation) Fire I carry 'round the frith-stead And bid men the frith to keep Light I carry for enclosing And bid...

    Where'd you get it, then?

I think about God all day

I never said anything about being "inspired by God." Just "inspired." The same way modern artists are inspired to create. Of course, you're right. We ultimately can't know because the authors are anonymous. And we likewise cannot know if they were written with the express purpose of controlling...

Sci Fi....What's It Done For You?

I was also effected by my personal favorite TOS episode, Balance of Terror, in which both Kirk and the Romulan captain are engaged in a submarine-chess battle, and it ends with them both feeling deeply regretful that they had to meet on the battlefield as enemies, both expressing to the other...

I think about God all day

I can. You don't think that many, if not most, of the texts in the Bible were just people feeling inspired and wanting to create, just like any artist?

    The Green Man: Neolithic Deity

So the Green Man is John Barleycorn? XD Incidentally, did you write this legend yourself?

    Pagan Goddess Prayers

To be fair, the only text of the Æcerbot we have comes from a Christian source, so the scribe probably had to use innuendo to keep the church happy. Maybe the original spell was more explicit. :D Incidentally, the reason I put Frey in brackets is because the original text reads "God"; I kinda...

It's not about terrorists, it's about theocracy

From what I've seen of his arguments about religion (among other topics not related to his profession), I regard him as naive and severely ignorant in terms of sheer diversity of thought. His success is not, to me, a sign of the overall quality of his arguments or notions. I'm glad that Arabs...

The need for a grand purpose/meaning

I understand. Mine isn't "normal" (what's sometimes called "neurotypical") either. I'm recovering from depression, and suffer from fears that are of the type that could potentially lead to clinical paranoia if I'm not careful. I also have asperger's syndrome/high-functioning autistic spectrum...

The First Punic War. That was caused by some bored Italians in Sicily literally causing trouble for no other reason than teh lulz.
