I thought I was a Christian but it was studying the Bible t.hat led me to Agnostic Atheism. The partisan nature of the Old Testament and the absurdity of it all among other things.I didn't lose my faith by reading but by thinking.
Over two thousand years I would say that would be unlikely. However the fact that same contradictions are raised repeatedly suggests that they have not been addressed convincingly
Not meaning to be difficuly, but what is meant by loss of soul of a civilization? A rise in lawlessness, a drop in church attendance, questioning of authority.? These things are and have been occurring worldwide for hundreds if not thousands of years
Such a simple statement opens up a field of discussion. Reading just the gospel of Mark we can take the adoptionist view. Just as Adam was a son of God so are we all. Jesus was chosen at his baptism to be "The beloved Son in whom I am well pleased", to be a figure to be emulated and later act as...
I have said in other threads that the atheist position is that we do not believe god(s) exist not we make the claim that god(s) do not exist. The burden of proof thus falls to the theist to show god in the vast unknown universe.
I question "fulfilled prophecy". In many cases the prophecy is made after the fact, is so vague and general it could be fulfilled by any event, or people actively seek to fulfill the prophecy.
Actually the first means that you do not accept the claim made by the believer and the burden of proof is on the believer. The second is making a claim and therefore carries the burden of proof. The same applies to a belief in god(s). Atheists simply do not accept the claim and the burden of...
If the Creator, God for want of a better term, was perfect and entire unto himself, what was his motivation to create the universe? He lacked nothing and had no need to fulfill, so creation was unnecessary. So, as you say, the fundamental question (of Life, the Universe and Everything) is : Why?
Exactly what I said.
Two propositions;
a. I do not believe that god(s) exist.
b. I believe that god(s) do not exist.
Seemingly similar but very different. Of course there are many nuanced views between and beyond these two.
This is disturbing. While the sample size is too small to draw any definite conclusion we are talking about a nation that elected Donald Trump president.
