A question has been floating in my mind for quite some time now. And there's no better place to ask than on RF :=)
If we are nothing but Brahman, the saakshi (witness) and most importantly, an omniscient (all-knowing) being, then why can't we know what's taking place on the other side of the...
Do jews slaughter and eat the paschal lamb on nisan 14th (nightfall/evening) or 15th (nightfall/evening)?
If it is slaughtered and eaten in the 14th, then what do the jews have in their seder meal on 15th, other than matzah?
I feel the same way.
People keep telling me that i should love God or that i should have complete faith in Him no matter what.
But I cannot force myself to love a cruel God ... I mean, i can always pretend to love Him but that's not really loving ... Is it?
True love for God should come from...
I'm a theist and I'm always angry at God because in my opinion, He's not a compassionate Father. There are billions of people all around the world suffering from diseases, poverty and hunger.
Maybe it is because of our sins or karma that we suffer. But that doesn't mean God should turn his back...
By 'pure' I simply meant the original, true state of Brahman, which is spirit or consciousness and not ITS various shapes and forms which are nothing but ITS manifestations. :) That is why, Shankara in his text 'aparokshanubhuti' advices us to practice "neti neti" ( not this, not this).
That is so true. Everyone and everything in the universe is Brahman including the filthy things. But we advaitins seek Brahman in ITS pure spirit form and not in ITS various material forms or manifestations. :)
As per advaita philosophy, terms like 'Atman', 'Parmatma' and 'Brahman' are used interchangeably and they mean the same thing -> the infinite, all-pervading universal spirit or consciousness.
So what is the individual soul then?
As per advaita, the individual soul is the jiva or the...
Hmm maybe you're right. Maybe he is a divine incarnation. After all, he did visit all the great teachers like Lahiri Mahasaya, Yukteshwar, Yogananda etc.
True. When it comes to kriya yoga, it is not safe to practice it alone at home. Its better to try it under the guidance of a guru. I've heard that if one opens or unwinds the chakras too fast, then he/she can even go into psychosis. That's quite a dangerous thing, if you ask me.
Last year i was...
TBH, i don't know anything about him.
I came upon his wikipedia page where it is written that he was born in 203 AD.
In other sites it is mentioned that he lived for thousands of years.
So, is it really possible to attain immortality or to live for thousands of years through the science of...
Even though i respect and believe in the existence of all Gods and Goddesses of hinduism, i'm not much into idol worship or ritualistic religious activities like offering flowers and food to Gods.
Instead, I like taking part in religious discussions. :)
@ronki23 Therapy too is used to supress your traits but as i said they lie buried in chitta and again pop up when it finds the suitable environment.
And just so you know, Krishna said in the gita that the body is killed but Atman is immortal.
Please do note, Atman and soul are not the same...
In my opinion, the drugs prescribed by psychiatrists only supresses certain traits and personalities but they are not completely uprooted from your mind. They still lie buried in your chitta (subconsciousness). These supressed traits and behaviours will surely show up again, either in this life...
For those who are new to Advaita Vedanta, might find these explanations helpful.
From various websites I've gathered information about the different theories of Advaita and I've explained them in simple English so that anyone interested can have a clear understanding of them.
If someone come...
