    very well said midnight

    reason vs believe

But you are not talking about intelligence and capacity, you are talking about a supposed being that transcendes all we understand (for now). However the god of the gaps theory has been exposed in this forum before. You exist and there is evidence supporting this claim. There is no evidence...

    If christianity was strictly followed

wouldnt that be really cool, if you really had a what if machine. Just imagine what you could do with it..

    Hello peeps

Hello everyone Nice to join your forum. I am a Pantheist / Transhumanist, but my parents background is in Sikhism. I really enjoy discussing religion and various life philosophies. Everyone seems very nice and polite here. I look forward to making some new friends and learning about different...

    If christianity was strictly followed

I agree 100%, however my question was a completely hypothetical if. If christianity had been allowed to govern what we knew of the universe we would not of found out the truth about our solar system.

If the Age of the Earth is 6000 Years...

I see that no one has actually answered Penguins excellent thread with anything other than some banter about corn oil. Somehow i dont think anyone actually will either.)(

    If christianity was strictly followed

Your postition is very different in that your knowlegde that the earth travels around the sun is based on evidence collected first hand by mankind. Not conjecture or medievil fairy tales.

    If christianity was strictly followed

But its relgious leaders did try to stop the spread of the knowlege that the earth travelled around the sun. Copernicus's book was banned and Gallileo was accused of heresy by the church for making these claims.

    If christianity was strictly followed

Quick poll to gauge the general opinions of the people on this forum. Thinking of Copernicus, If christianity had been strictly adhered to since conception would we still believe the sun went around the earth?

    reason vs believe

Was this a scientific study on the probability of extraterrestrial life visiting earth, or was it just anacdotal evidence gathered from astronomers? If it was the latter then it carries about as much weight as most anecdotal evidence. However Sagans conclusion was based on many other factors...

    reason vs believe

Hello Jay The absence of evidence is not evidence, it is an absense of evidence. Why is the teapot analogy vapid? It merely states that just because something has not been disproven, it does not mean is has been proven either. The ownes lies with whow ever is making the claim.

    reason vs believe

Very well explained. The reason i dont trust religion is because it does beleive it knows the nature and wants of a god when they can never know the true nature of god if such a being does exist. You miss understand me, i have not said that the lack of evidence is evidence that god does not...

    reason vs believe

Hi Willamena (thats a lovely name) Your statement makes no sense. It would be very unreasonable for there to be no evidence of such a powerful being ruling over all the universe. That would be like finding a man guilty of murder without any evidence to back up the charges.

Human physical bodies transformed from bears!

this is the best thread i have ever read!

Part 2, an attack on creationism

This has to be a hoax post!
  17. S

    reason vs believe

Because there is absoloutly no evidence such a being exists, and you would think it reasonable that such a being would leave some solid evidence rather then just medievil myths and anecdotes.

    Validity of Muhammad's message.

im sure these are not the only verses in the quran that advocate violence to spread islam.

    reason vs believe

Hello Emu im sorry to offend you (if i do) but you cant call the belief in an all powerful being that has total control over all the matter in the entire universe reasonable.
  20. S

    reason vs believe

Religion is about faith, not reason. If reason came into the equation no one would believe in a magical being who lives everywhere at the same time, and can hear and see everything in the universe whilst talking to and hearing us and answering our prayers simultaneously. Oh and i forgot he made...
