I think I have finally figured out what my "label" would be...
I grew up as a Southern Baptist, but left that camp long ago. I am too much of a free thinker, and questioned a lot of what they preach. I explored different religions and denominations, cross referencing my beliefs with them.
I...
Then there are a lot of two faced Christians out there. They have as much faith as the next person, but then act very non-Christian throughout the week. Having faith and living according to the commandments are two very different things.
Just because you have faith and have been "saved"...
For me, this is a rhetorical question, but I am interested in the views of others, including non-Christians and their religious beliefs.
Saved by faith alone, or by faith + deeds (good works)?
(NASB)
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves...
A question was sent to me because of this thread...
Q: well, then what happens when you die, if this is true?
A: you go to the grave.
The more complex answer is that you go to the grave, your body decays over time, but your soul "sleeps" until the resurrections and judgments that Revelation...
I am fine with it, as no religion has a unified faith. There are separate factions in every religion because PEOPLE can't agree on everything 100%. Too many chiefs, not enough indians.
When you die, where does the idea of "burning in hell" come from, because it is not in the Bible. No where does it say that you are immediately judged, and go to Heaven or Hell. If you think it does, I challenge you to find the chapter/verse!
The Hebrew word that was used in the OT was...
Pegg, no offense, but if you are a JW, and you are quoting from or using the NWT as your source, you and I will never see eye to eye. I am tolerant of all religions and respect other people's views, but the NWT is not something I ever care to read or learn from. Thanks anyway, for replying.
I deal with facts, not opinions or unprovable theories.
There's a lot of Christian belief about Satan, but very few can actually tell me where those beliefs come from. As I search the NT, I find references in the Book of Revelation, but those don't always say "Satan." The dragon, the serpent...
I am curious how the writers go from the OT (Tanakh) account of Satan (Ha-SaTan) as nothing more than "the accuser/adversary," and following God's orders, to the NT account of Satan being public enemy #1.
I grew up as a Southern Baptist, but now identify myself as a non-denominational...
I am curious as to the MJ position on Satan. I know that in Orthodox Judaism, he is simply Ha-SaTan (his title, not name...the accuser/adversary) and works for God, not against God. He has a specific job to do, and follows God's orders in doing it.
How does MJ relate the OT account and the...
Judaism might disagree with you on that. They can clarify their position better than I can, but I have read that there is a belief amongst (some) Jews that since God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent:
1. God created everything including Satan.
2. Satan is following God's orders to try...
Topic: does the Old Testament law(s) apply to Christians?
Please cite your sources when replying. Would be very interested to hear from the Judaism crowd on this one.

As for my sources, I am my own source!
In all seriousness, I am almost 40 and have studied history for the better part of my life. A lot of what I say is from memory, as history is one of the most fascinating things that interests me. I can't say exactly which source I learned something...
Actually there are several denominations within Christianity that do not recognize Catholics as Christians, but rather a large cult complete with idolatry, prayers to the dead, etc. Don't flame me over it, just stating a fact.
NASB
Genesis 3:24 So He drove the man out; and at the east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim and the flaming sword which turned every direction to guard the way to the tree of life.
So my question then becomes, why hasn't anyone seen the angel(s) and this flaming sword? Heck...
Actually, his mother's name was Semele, not Selene, unless of course you refer to the Cretan version in which case his mother's name was Persephone. It all depends on which culture you go with and "who borrowed what from whom" in telling of the story.
Which, of course, illustrates my entire...
Don't flame me over the title. Read first, then respond. I will not get into a fight or flamefest. I intend to be civil throughout the entirety of this post...
It is no secret that religions borrow ideas, beliefs or themes from one another. For every concept you find in whatever religion you...
I'll play along...
Humans are inherently evil. It is in our nature to dominate, persecute, trash talk, make fun of, bully and ridicule others. People don't like others who are different from themselves.
