1 in 14 priests accused of abuse

I don't equate the two; I thought I made that clear.

N

What I'm saying is that when people live in close quarters - as priests typically do - they can't help but find out details of each other's lives, so not only should we be condemning the priests who carried out the abuse directly; we should also condemn all the priests who knew about - or strongly suspected - the abuse and did nothing.

You haven't made anything clear. Your simply stating that because of your experience of shared living in your youth with other males and having felt obliged to keep secret their promiscuity. You then somehow accuse priests of casually doing the same only in this case its with under age children which to most normal people is repugnant. Did you feel that the sexual promiscuity of your flatmates was as as equally disturbing to you as child abuse ? If so why did you choose to remain there. ? Now i'm going to say your a fairly normal person and therefore it would be pretty ridiculous of me to think that you being a normal person would find someone who sleeps around as disturbing to you as someone who abuses children. But you bigotry blinds you from seeing that your suggesting that very thing here purely because men are Catholic priests. If perverts can dwell within families and prey on their own family members for years and and its only two members ever know usually until the victim has the courage to open up when older than that is when and only when others become aware. Because perverts such as pedos terrify their victims into silence in order to both continue their abuse and to preserve their own veneer of respectability to those nearest and dearest to them i.e friends and family.

That there were priests who did nothing, yes there will be a gutless few . But your thread is the worst of sensationalist bigotry.

Didn't you get the memo, atheists eat babies not fondle them.

Ha ha. Why aren't you saying priests do not do the same thing to the first poster? Wasn't that was my point? The feeble brained subscribes to grasp anything to rip the Christians with. And we have the liberal media to thank for this.

This is a typical liberal talking point burned into the liberal feeble brains of liberals who grasp at any negative liberal news against the liberal church. Don't get me wrong, I'm for getting rid of the bad liberal priests and the liberal church has to take legal liberal responsibility. Too often it gets buried unless the liberal victims sue. What's the answer? More liberal women priests? Priesthood should not be equated with liberal homosexuality? Allow liberal priests to marry in those liberal churches that forbid it?

Liberal pederasty should be equated with the liberal gay population and liberal atheists, but this gets buried by the liberal media. No, liberal gays are not attracted to liberal children! This is liberal BS. It could be an even higher liberal population than the percentage of liberal priests. Not only liberal pederasty, but liberal child porn and liberal child prostitution should be equated to liberal atheists. All covered up by the liberal media. What do we liberals do about them? Sue them? Lock them up? Castration? I mean the liberal media liberal ha liberal ha.

I'll assume you mean the liberal priests? It's been said that in the olden liberal days (don't ask me what liberal period exactly) that liberal men who knew they had liberal homosexual tendencies should become liberal priests because it was the only job they could hold down. It's a liberal stereotype I suppose.

Taking umbrage against the liberal people like Sulzberger? Oh how I wish I could turn the liberal tables on him here liberal ha liberal ha.

You and the OP should form a club or something. What can you call it? The liberal mickey mouse organization.

Personally, I con't care how many people get accused. I only care about how many get proven guilty.

You should also care about how the church responds to accusations, and evidence.
Individuals committed these crimes, but it took an organization to cover them up.

And this relates to your previous post, how?

I have no idea of what this is supposed to say.

Let's look at the OP which was 1 in 14 priests accused of abuse.

Let's look at the OP's source which is the liberal AP. AP is founded in New York City and New York Times is huge part of it. You can see here that NYT has a lengthy history of putting out this news byline.

LMGTFY

The story ran in a prominent place in the NYT today -- https://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2017/02/06/world/asia/ap-as-australia-church-abuse.html?_r=0 .

Now, let's change one word to 1 in 14 HOMOSEXUALS accused of abuse.

LMGTFY

So, what is the real problem? Priests or homosexuality?

A liberal issue? We're talking about the systematic rape of children under the care of the church, with a LOT of evidence that church authorities not only failed to act, but actively helped to cover abuses up.
Can you PLEASE pull your head out of your arse for a moment and drop the pseudo-political bull****?
If you think the case is overstated, feel free to argue as much. But if you're here just sprouting generalist point-scoring crap, then I'd ask you to please desist.

This is flat out tripe. I'm hoping you were drunk, stoned, or joking when you wrote it.

Puhleeze lewisnotmiller. Read my post #53 carefully.

If you're going after the priests, then let's go after the homosexuals, as well . Why can't we take our lamps and torches to round up and castrate or whatever you propose to do to the priests and the homosexuals in public?

Hmmm, if that was the point you were trying to make you might want to reconsider your delivery. To that point, I would agree that the media over plays the idea and stigmatizes priests in the process. It was and still is a big story, with cover ups, conspiracy, and innocent victims. Bottom line, it sells. People love to be disgusted. And media doesn't care who they crap on to earn a buck. So, should it have been reported differently? Yes. Should it have been reported? Yes. To try to shift blame doesn't take away from the fact that these incidents happened. The truth is that there are despicable people in every walk of life, of every gender, in every job. No label grants immunity.

I read your post 53.
It's crap.

As you are probably aware, this is happening in my country. If you were at all interested, you could access plenty of evidence corroborating the OP.

Royal commission into child sexual abuse: 1,880 alleged perpetrators identified in Catholic Church - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Instead you want to peddle some left/right, liberal blah, blah crap. Honestly, either educate yourself on the issue or stay out of it.

There were systematic cover-ups, which is what the Royal Commission is all about. This isn't about hunting down individual priests as a means of attacking religion, ffs.

I was brought up a Catholic. Spent my entire primary school in a St Josephs convent and secondary school in a Marist Brothers college (Sacred Heart) and although I was never sexually abused I know that the priest who said mass every Sunday at the school chapel was gay and was caught as reported in the local paper having sex with a man in a public park.
The Catholic church is a church full of people such as him.
It is a hypocritical institution that covers up and pays off victims as it thinks it is above the law or a law unto itself.
I no longer believe in god or in any church as most are corrupt.
You can brush it over with you "Liberal" comments but evil is evil and that is what occurs rampantly in this church. The whole church is tarnished by these actions
Let face it, if you have those sick tendencies then what better place to practice your sick deeds and hide?

One of my points was to take strong issue with what the OP was saying. Just look at the other things he spewed here. I agree with the rest of your post.

This will sound trite but try and separate belief in God from the actions of people, or even institutions, that claim belief.

For me personally, that still has me landing as a non-believer, so I'm not suggesting you 'should' believe. But I shake my head at what some atheists say or do, too. Has always been a useful way to look at the world for me.

(Like I said...A little trite, so apologies)
