That is according to a Rasmussen poll. The poll also found:
44% of likely voters think former President Trump is guilty for crimes related to the January 6th 2020 events and want him to be in prison,
7% of them think he should be imprisoned for life, and
3% want him exiled.

Among Democrats:
72% want him in prison,
12% think it should be for life, and
2% of Democrats want him executed.

Democrats Want Harsh Punishment for Trump

We live in troubling times.

Why does this mean we live in troubling times? Actually, that less than 5% of a nation want to execute a former leader is a sign of robust stability in the system. That's way too small of a number to pose any significant threat a nation's rule of law or security. If it was, say, a third? Or even more shockingly, more than half? We'd be on the cusp of a revolution. A bloody, violent revolution. As it stands, this is evidence that's not likely to happen any time soon.

From the article.

The survey of 1,085 U.S. Likely Voters was conducted on November 30-December 6, 2023 by Rasmussen Reports and The Heartland Institute. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
What's 3% less than 2%? :tearsofjoy:

Today I heard a group of doctors, and one rumored that he expected "Our guy" Trump to be assassinated if elected and that terrible things were going on because of Democrats. This is the bull**** which passes for political discourse lately. Naturally I expect him to be assassinated by his own party. It would give them a huge advantage to so frame the Democrats.

Also, the Heartland Institute is known for severe right wing bias and lack of credibility...

Apparently you don't understand how the margin of sampling error works or you wouldn't have posted this.

Doesn't it measure the degree of error in which the sample is representative of the entire population?

If I'm missing something, please do enlighten me.

Only 44%? That's worrying.
Not really.
when you consider that 13% are not sure.

Also keep in mind this is a survey of 1085 people.

If President Trump is found guilty of crimes associated with attempting to overturn the 2020 election, do you think he should be banned from running from public office again?
54% yes
41% no
5% not sure

If President Trump is found guilty of crimes associated with attempting to overturn the 2020 election, do you think members of the media who also alleged that fraud tainted the election results should be criminally punished as well?
48% yes
33% no
18% not sure

Execution is the traditional punishment for treason.

oTo call that troubling times over a president who instigated an insurrection? Clearly that's just all wrong and Trump's ****s rose scented gold.
But he is only accused of doing that. Yes, it is troubling that so many want to execute someone who has never been found guilty of a crime.

And is never applied to people that have not ever been convicted of it. That one out of fifty of Democrats want someone executed who has never been convicted of treason is troubling to those that support a rule of law.
Except your poll does not support that anyone wants to execute Trump before he is convicted...

The actual question asked by the pollsters is:

If President Trump is found guilty of crimes associated with attempting to overturn the 2020 election, what, in your opinion, should be his punishment?
You did note the very beginning of the question:

If President Trump is found guilty

Weird that you would jump to the conclusion that "executed" would mean a summary execution without trial and not after a trial for treason that those 2% believe would find him guilty.
