"48% of White Evangelicals Would Support Kavanaugh Even If He Assaulted Dr. Ford"

Subduction Zone

On his calendar on July 1st, Kavanaugh wrote "Go to Timmy's for skis w/Judge, Tom, PJ, Bernie, Squi"

That would place himself and Judge at a party/get-together on that date, and also includes PJ, who was one of the people Ford named as as being present at the party/get-together at which she claims the attack happened.

The special prosecutor at the hearing started a line of questioning down that path, but shortly after that, the Republicans started questioning Kavanaugh themselves (if you can call it that) and the prosecutor seemed to disappear after that.

(You had said, " Kavanaugh offers his calendar, which
appears to indicate that he didn't even attend any such party.")
Of course sometimes people at that age went drinking just to get drunk. That does not mean a party. One would have to read his calendar in context to see if he made a difference between parties and just getting hammered.

I never knew them so intimately that I had pet names for them.
So I always called them "beer"

Then you probably were not that heavy of a drinker in college. I was not a heavy drinker either since beer was the beverage of choice among my friends and I am allergic to the hops or some other ingredient in beer. I can drink a couple and then I begin to have trouble breathing. That kept my consumption under control. When we went on a beer run my friends would all be looking of the cheapest beer they could stand and I would look for something that looked like it had a bit of flavor to it. They eventually settled on Pfeiffer, also known as The Silent P.

Ford doesn't claim it was a big huge party or anything other than a gathering of high school kids. The important detail is that the people she mentioned as being there, are listed on his calendar on July 1st.
So to say , "Kavanaugh offers his calendar, which appears to indicate that he didn't even attend any such party," isn't quite accurate, given that his calendar shows that he was getting together with at least 2 of the people Ford claimed were at the gathering at which she was attacked.

I had to motivations to avoid over-consumption....
- Cheapskate
- Not much interest in the beers of the day.
Things were so bad that we thought Coors was special.

Aah Coors. Back in the day Coors was rather limited in its distribution and had perhaps an unearned reputation. The Geology in much of Minnesota is rather boring, though there are a few interesting elements. For our field geology course, a rather grueling class that involved an extended filed trip of about six weeks going out in the field for at least eight hours a day of mapping, we went to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. It was the only university course that I took where we had a daily beer ration. We got a couple of beers a day, which happens to be my limit, and Coors of course was a favorite at first. By the end though many were going back to the old standby Budweiser.

Things were so primitive back then before micro-breweries were re-legalized.

And today's dirty little secret is that many micro-breweries are no longer so micro:

ETA: I had to check to see who owns my current favorite. This:

Not only did I not claim it was "perfect nor reliable", but you inadvertently confirm the point I was making with the above, namely that it is not unusual at all for a person who's been traumatized to not remember everything and sometimes even be confused.

Irrelevant. Every time I talked about memory you tossed out your argument about memories and trauma being reliable.

This does not mean what the person's testimony is to be discounted however, which is why investigations like we're seeing are necessary to try and establish what may or may not have occurred. She has admitted there are things she cannot remember, which can be viewed as being more a positive than a negative in terms of whether she's being dishonest or not.

No need Ford's memory issue ruined her case.

Again, I'm willing to wait and not draw judgments, but there are some here who are too willing to jump the shark, imo.

Nope. Innocent until proven guilty is what I have been argument. Evidence, or lack of as well. Lack of witnesses. No need for the FBI to investigate a case that failed in the press

Sorry, as I didn't read his post.

No problem.

BTW, supposedly his last confirmation was delayed three months because he was considered too partisan according to a news account I heard this morning, but I haven't had the time to double-check that.

Is he partisan or merely some of his views can be set in such a "light". What I mean by this is certain positions or views are partisan because the lines in the sand the parties have taken of their own accord. This forces people to side with a party as said party maybe the only one without such a strict singular view on an issue

Sorry to say that you are not telling the truth on misrepresenting what I posted, and you've done that numerous times lately, so I've pretty well have had it with your continuing distorting or out-and-out lying in response to my posts. This is my last post back to you.

What I said is that it is not unusual for things to be forgotten through "repression" because of trauma, so Ford having difficulty remembering details that took place 30+ years ago should be viewed as not being unusual. Now whether what she said about Kavanaugh's alleged assault on her is true, I have no opinion on, which is why I have continually here said that an FBI investigation was needed and, thankfully, ordered.

Innocent until proven guilty is what I have been argument.
This is not a trial, so in situations like this sometimes a person's character can make or break them. For me, I have mixed feelings about his character, thus unsure of my previous support of him, so now I have decided to wait and see what the investigation unfolds before deciding. However, my opinion one way or the other doesn't amount to a hill of beans with the overall picture, but I along with millions of others will be voting in about a month.

Interesting ...

"Renate Schroeder Dolphin was among 65 women who, saying they knew Kavanaugh during high school, signed a letter to the leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee that vouched for his character and behavior toward women. Kavanaugh's years at Georgetown Preparatory School in Maryland are being examined because of allegations by Christine Blasey Ford that he sexually assaulted her when he was a student there, which he denies.

But after Dolphin learned of the appearance of the word "Renate" at least 14 times in the school's 1983 yearbook, including in a group photo of football players described as "Renate Alumni," she seemed to withdraw her support.

“I learned about these yearbook pages only a few days ago," Dolphin said in a statement to The New York Times. "I don’t know what ‘Renate Alumnus’ actually means. I can’t begin to comprehend what goes through the minds of 17-year-old boys who write such things, but the insinuation is horrible, hurtful and simply untrue. I pray their daughters are never treated this way. I will have no further comment."

Two of Kavanaugh’s classmates told the Times that the mentions of "Renate" were part of the football players' unsubstantiated boasting about their conquests."

...

"Proctor and Osler were previously among 27 of Kavanaugh's classmates who in August wrote a letter to Grassley and Feinstein advocating for Kavanaugh. In that letter, they and the other signatories wrote they "firmly believe that Judge Kavanaugh would make decisions thoughtfully, honestly and impartially."

But Proctor and Osler wrote in their new letter that they “fear that partisanship has injected itself into Judge Kavanaugh’s candidacy.”

Kavanaugh during his testimony Thursday accused Democrats of undermining him with "a calculated and orchestrated political hit" that was part of a revenge plot "on behalf of the Clintons."

Not really as per the below.

Ergo you are giving her the benefit of the doubt based on something not proven about her nor her memories yet. You are assuming repression.

This is not a trial, so in situations like this sometimes a person's character can make or break them. For me, I have mixed feelings about his character, thus unsure of my previous support of him, so now I have decided to wait and see what the investigation unfolds before deciding. Hence why this farce was played out. To get you to vote over what is an assertion and the reaction to it as it is fresh in your mind. The GOP is benefiting as well by letting it play out.
