7-year-old transgender child closes down Girl Scout troops

"Colorado-based Girl Scouts troop's decision to admit a 7-year-old transgender child this fall has prompted three leaders to resign and dissolve their troops.

As The Christian Post is reporting, all three of the troop leaders were affiliated with the Northlake Christian School in Covington, Louisiana.

Susan Bryant-Snure, one of the leaders who resigned, told The Baptist Press that the Girl Scouts' action is "extremely confusing" and an "almost dangerous situation" for children. "This goes against what we [Northlake Christian School] believe," said Bryant-Snure, who has three daughters among the 25 girls who had been active scouts there.

The controversy began when Felisha Archuleta protested against a Denver troop's decision to not initially allow her transgender daughter, Bobby Montoya, to join the group. "I believe he was born in the wrong body," Archuleta, who also confessed to having difficulty switching from male to female pronouns when discussing her child, told ABC. "But the Girl Scout leader told us he can't join because he has 'boy parts.'... But no one would know he's a boy unless they pulled his pants down."

The Girl Scouts of Colorado subsequently released a statement through the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) in support of Archuleta and her excluded daughter, noting, "If a child identifies as a girl and the child's family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout."

One of those cut of your nose to spite your face things. Oh, wait. there is a good reason. It's an "'almost dangerous situation' for children."

I like that part.

What is interesting is that the troops in question that were disbanded were in an entirely different state from the one where the transgender girl is. Do they think being transgender is going to "spread" across state lines simply through the association of the term "Girl Scout"? What is really the sad part in all this are that there were girls who lost out on their troops because of the bigotry and fear of their troop leaders. Now they must find different troops and be separated from the friends they made in their former troops. If the leaders of the troops, all from the same Christian school, had some weird moral issue with "Girl Scouts" as an organization then they could have done the mature thing and put in notice and tried to get replacement leaders for the girls who wanted to remain in their troops instead of just disbanding and abandoning them. The women who did this just come off as ignorant, bigoted, and uncaring. They probably shouldn't have been troop leaders in the first place if they couldn't care enough about the girls to see what they wanted before they threw their temper-tantrums and walked out.

And honestly, the title of this thread is quite misleading and outright false. It's not Bobby's fault those troops were disbanded, it's the fault of 3 women, obviously friends, who threw a tissy and walked out on their troops.

Honestly, he looks like a girl. I don't see the problem, but I think plenty of people just judge by what parts you have. And honestly, it's not like he's going to flash anyone.

The article says that the troop leaders, in Colorado, were affliated with a Christian school in Louisiana. So it happened in the same state, but I'm not exactly sure how they're affliated with a school in another state.

You're absolutely right. I have a tendency to "tabloidize" my titles so as to draw in readers. In this case it was erroneous, and I apologize for misleading anyone. In the future I'll make sure that my titles at least reflect the truth of the topic.

I went around the web to try to establish the relationships between the two, but had no luck. Perhaps someone else can fill us in.

No, the troops that were disbanded were not in Colorado at all. They were in Louisiana.

Three Girl Scout troops at a Christian school in Louisiana have disbanded in protest of a policy of inclusion for transgenders.

...

Troop leaders in Lacombe, La., aren’t buying it though. They resigned as leaders from Northlake Christian School and are dismantling their troops over the Girl Scouts’ policy.

So, basically, these three Christian school teacher friends thought "OMG! How WRONG! We can't have anything to do with Girl Scouts now!" And disbanded their troops over one transgendered little girl, in a completely different state, being allowed to join the same organization they were affiliated with.

Ah, you're right. I get it now.

Bravo! Bravo!

They even got the pronouns right and everything. :rainbow1:

I wasn't sure if he actually identifies as a girl (in which case it would be she's a girl), or he just likes acting and dressing like a girl (which isn't wrong, but he'd be a boy).

-rewatches the video-

I think I'm leaning towards saying she's a girl.

That is so cool the Girl Scouts have the position they do. And that the girl is being welcomed as she is is also terrific!
As for the three "christian" leaders, I guess if there is a Heaven and Hell I call dibs on greeting them in Hell.:bat:

I would say that if a boy just likes acting and dressing like a girl, it wouldn't be appropriate to let him in the girl scouts.

But since it's apparently a transgender child, she should definitely be considered a girl and let in.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.

Well, they did better than the mother then. She can't even get the pronouns right with her own child.

Or maybe calling her child by male pronouns IS right.

Has the child been genetically tested to determine his/her sex?

I cut her some slack.
Theirs is not an easy path.

I'm just saying - is this child a boy or a girl? Genetically isn't it possible to tell? If so, the mother should have the child tested and then take it from there.

Watching the video - which has, of course, been edited - I am not convinced that the child "is" a girl.

I mean, could a really effeminate boy who just liked the idea of Girl Scouts be admitted?

Should we start calling it Child Scouts instead?

Strange that a Girl Scout leader with three daughters as active Scouts would be so unfamiliar with the Girl Scout Law, or with the concept of keeping one's promises:

I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.

What makes you think that genes are the be-all and end-all of sex?

I could be wrong, but I don't think gender identity disorder is generally detectable by genetics.

Genetically it is impossible to tell. There are a multitude of genetic variances of the typical XX and XY. There are some people who appear to be externally female, but they are born with male XY chromosomes. Some people have an extra X or two, some have only one X and nothing more. But the child most likely has XY chromosomes. So what? An Olympic runner's life was recently ruined because people demanded she undergo genetic testing. It did turn out she has XY chromosomes, but no one knew of her "male" chromosomes until the test, as is the case with just about every woman born with XY chromosomes.
Assuming the mother has taken her child to a mental health professional that deal with gender identity issues, it has been previously established the child is not going through with a phase. And gender behavior and identity are hardly related. A boy that identifies as a really effeminate boy would most likely still identify as a boy.
Yes the child is question may have male parts, but she identifies as and presents as female. Actually the parents should be applauded for trying to make their child's transition from one gender to the other as easy as possible. Her parents allowed her to start soon enough that as she ages she will look and act like any other girl her age, and have little trouble assimilating into society unnoticed. Not too many transwomen have that privilege. The Girl Scouts should also be praised for welcoming with open arms those who society largely frowns upon. It's very doubtful the Boy Scouts would allow a female-to-male transchild.
But since it seems the Girl Scouts are still just a girls club, then why change the name just because they happen to be more progressive than most of society?

Boy, girl, both or neither. I don't care, as long as they are still selling those peanut butter and chocolate cookies, they are good people to me.
