And my own request, is as I had stated in an earlier post....

http://www.religiousforums.com/forum/3737623-post2.html

I believe adherence to this itself, will go a long way in ensuring order and harmony in the forum, both Hinduism and Vedanta, in the present and future as well.

''I simply want a forum where Sanatana Dharma , as is taught in India is discussed , without the basics being challenged. :)''

I too would be so happy to discuss with you how your guru teaches and compair to how mine teaches , as through such humility we might learn to depen our understanding and appreciation :namaste

You can argue/debate on advanced points in the debate forums, but when the foundational basics of the religion itself are being challenged in the dir forum, it is a sure recipe for chaos and conflict, now and in the future as well.

I am begining to deeply fear that this tendancy to refute rather than discuss is will lead to the eventual decline of the Hinduism that people think that they are trying to preserve !

Why do you fear discussions? They are like wrestling. They make the body of dharma strong. See, how many discussions Buddha was involved in or the sages of Hinduism.

Nothing wrong with discussions. They are more similar to friendly sharing of ideas .

Debate is wrestling, and should be done in the same faith forums.

My point here, is that advanced points can be argued in the debate forums. Basics should not be challenged in the discussion forums as that can make the forum conflict prone and chaotic.

Agree, Occasional debates or discussions are necessary. But there are certain things that cannot be proved by debating, even if they are true.

sadly here there is no love of discussion , nor for glorification of the lord

only en ever deepening chasm of missunderstanding between the Jnanis and the Bhaktas

when will it be realised that both are the ornament of the other ....

Jnana alone as sung by shankaracharya is nothing but dry speculation

thus he sung ... Bhaja Govindam Baja Govindam

O deluded minded friend, chant Govinda, worship Govinda, love Govinda as there is no other way to cross the life's ocean except lovingly remembering the holy names of God.॥33॥

I humbly disagree with you over here, dear Ratikalaji. :namaste

As a jnani I have never misunderstood the bhaktas, and have stated my interest in the bhakta culture, as is evident from my posts.

I don't think any of the genuine jnanis too have opposed the bhaktas over here, from what I have seen and read. :)

I myself am striving to follow an integral synthesis of jnana and bhakta.

I hope that when the present chaos ends and the forum is restructured in a more stable and orderly form, peace will reign and I will be able to converse and enjoy bhakta posts to hearts content. :)

jai jai , to discuss with a mind open to learning sets us appart from animals ,

to endlessly argue and refute is deffensivness indicative of animalistic behavior .

we must learn to discriminate between that which is fruitfull and that which is fruitless

I fail to see why we
are even having this
conversation.

And the point being this:

Compare the amount of threads on bhakti and Vedanta with the
amount of threads on karma-kanda and the Veda-s and Mimamsa.
In fact, it's practically non-existent. I made countless attempts to start
up discussions on the theological aspects of karma-kanda and the
Vedas, all which never really took flight. The amount of theological
interest among Hindus regarding the Vedas is so low that it is practically
mind-boggling.

And because of this, it has basically become a point of non-interest to
even engage in fruitful dialogue. The Vedas are the foundations of our
dharma, folks. The greatest amount of conversations should be on the
intricacies of the Trayi-Vedas. There should be a metaphorical and
allegorical representation of a Hotri, Adhvaryu, Udgatri, and the
Overseer present in the HinduDIR forum. But there isn't. There is only
me and KT. Heck, both of us have become so distraught with the lack
of Vedic understanding on the forum that we have basically stopped
talking about Vedic Theology pretty much altogether.

In other words, the last thing Hindus should be contesting about is
whether the name, Hindu, is applicable or whether the term, Sanatana,
is better, and related topics. That really should be the last thing being
discussed.

I would say that a reason for the lack of interest could be that some of the sanskrit terms and terminology used are not well understood. You could, as LuisDantas suggested, prepare a glossary of the terms used in karma-kanda, Mimamsa so that Hindus of other traditions, as well as outsiders can understand the concept well. :)

I have never missunderstood that Fact and I aplaude you time and time over , you bear the ornament of both Jnana and Bhakti , if only there were freedom to discuss the glories of both I would be more than content .....

jai jai , my remark come of sadness and is not aimed at those who are genuine but at those who heckle for the sake of it .

Just "Elector", will do :)

I respect your views... however I am not too fond of this universalist approach to Hinduism. Yes, there has been some strife between some members on sectarian matters; however, separating Hinduism from its traditions and scriptures is not the solution. In my opinion, a more beneficial solution would be to increase mutual respect and tolerance.

Namaste Elector, :)

Yes, as long as an exclusivist tone of birth and race is not put in the forum, along with unnecessary verbal criticism of established masters and saints in Hinduism, I would say that the beneficial solution for differences in viewpoints would be to increase mutual respect and tolerance.

I think this is a good enough idea that I want to spend some time working on it.

I agree with you entirely that the only solution is tolerance and respect .

but for tolerance to work it must listen, .... respecting my veiw and the beging to differ is no true respect .

tolerance listens , ....respect takes anothers veiw into consideration

I have not advocated seperating Hinduism from its traditions or from its texts ,

prehaps you missunderstand me ?

I tried to read through the entire thread, but I couldn't. It all just seems too petty. I'm sorry. God can't possibly care what our worship of him is called.

Madhuri's new thread-sticky on forum guidelines, is also a positive spinoff of this thread, and which implemented properly, will help to get rid of much of the chaos in the forum and create a much pleasant atmosphere, imho.
