A Terrifying NDE

I would not expect them to be all roses and peaches, as they will reflect our own relative state of being in connection with the eternal.

Here is one thought.

"Now punishments and rewards are said to be of two kinds. Firstly, the rewards and punishments of this life; secondly, those of the other world. But the paradise and hell of existence are found in all the worlds of God, whether in this world or in the spiritual heavenly worlds."

‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Bahá’í World Faith - ‘Abdu’l-Bahá Section, p. 323

The dream world is a 'World of God'.

So NDE events will also reflect our innermost connection with the divine reality. They will be relevant to our state of being.

Each individual that comes back from such an event has been gifted an event to share, but most importantly, it is an aid for them, as back in this life, it offers them more opportunities.

Regards Tony

I don't disagree with this. I just use different religious trappings :)
I first became interested in NDEs when I realized somehow my religious beliefs were fading. Years before I had seen Elizabeth Kobler Ross on an interview show. Her name and the stories of her experiences treating those near death ....made an impression on me....Concerned that my loss of faith in a specific religion had left me feeling incomplete in some way I researched her writings which led to books by others who were experienced in treating patients near death. I still don't fully accept NDEs as real connections with a Deity or a heavenly revelation. I do believe there is some process that takes place during death as death for most is not instantaneous. If there is some 'process' that exists how could it possibly be the result of evolution? As I understand the theory of Evolution, organisms that are more successful in adapting to the environment have a much better chance to survive. What survival is necessary after death?.......Members who post in this thread might have some ideas on this subject....

It's exactly a process of evolution to make the scariest part of our lives (death) pleasant or at least dreamlike. It's the carry over if a positive trait, like belief in religion.

I will either find out or not find out what if anything awaits me.......probably in a few short years......As I age my cancer operations increased, another cancer of the thyroid resulted in the removal of the thyroid. We all need the hormone the thyroid and parathyroid produce. Then that synthetic hormone has a high probability of why I now have osteoporosis. If I list all the damages I have to my body all will think I'm asking for sympathy......The point I'm making is death may be a relief, not a curse. Death need not be scary. In fifth grade, I was terrified to have a nun in the sixth grade who had a terrible reputation for being strict. I reasoned that if the bozos that graduated six grade could take being taught by this terrible nun then I could tolerate her. Why be scared of any experience? I expect to graduate with honors.....:)

I understand. I've contended with osteoporosis myself, and my wife has thyroid concerns, but not cancer. Stay strong :).

What ever awaits us over the rainbow bridge, I am sure it's good.

Well, I probably sound too Theistic using the word 'blessing'. You may remember the medication I once mentioned that may be the reason for my positivity. You, sir, are a blessing to RF in my book.

Most likely it was a negative response to this post put in the Baha'i DIR, as it was posted soon after. One of the first answers to the OP picked up on the intent.

An Amazing NDE

Maybe they think their intent goes unnoticed?

Regards Tony

No of course my intent wasn't to be subtle @TransmutingSoul . Only to present the other, darker, half of the coin.

My thread wasn't even meant as a slight against you, or your thread. Had your post been in interfaith, I would have just posted my op there instead :).

I'd take it as a second chance to accept Jesus.
I agree. I never had a NDE, but all my life, even as a kid, I used to have dreams of falling down a long, long tunnel into darkness with no possible way to stop myself from falling. It was very scary and I always woke up with a jolt. Since I trusted Jesus Christ over thirty years ago, I never had that dream again.

God gets our attention in various ways and gives everyone opportunities to call on the Savior. I think it’s wise to pay attention

I find it is false clergy who teach after-death experiences as being conscious planting ideas in people's heads.
So, a near-death experience would just be a conscious experience but without scriptural backing.
What we can learn from the old Hebrew Scriptures and Jesus that in death there is only 'sleep'. (R.I.P.)
Psalms 115:17 the dead do Not praise God ...any that go down in: silence
Isaiah 38:18 the grave can Not praise God, Not celebrate God, can Not hope for truth ( includes religious truth )
Ecclesiastes 9:5 the dead know Not anything......
John 11:11-14,17 Jesus says his 4-day dead friend is: sleeping
John 6:40; John 6:44; John 11:24 Jesus does Not 'wake up' the sleeping dead until the 'last day'.
The ' last day' meaning Jesus' coming Millennium-Long Day of governing over Earth for a thousand years.
This is why the ' future tense ' is used at Acts of the Apostles 24:15 that 'there is going to be' a resurrection......
Although what that woman experienced was horrible to her it did Not come from God. God "IS" love.

My NDE was nothingness. Maybe that is because there is nothing I want from after I die, anything like that I have here and now. And there is nothing I fear beyond that point.
Fret not, because after death there is the future resurrection hope.
The dead sleep in un-conscious sleep - Ecclesiastes 9:5: Psalms 115:17; Isaiah 38:18; John 11:11-14
The Bible speaks of Resurrection Day (Not a 24-hour day, but Jesus' coming Millennium-Long Day of governing over Earth for a thousand years in righteousness).
Under Christ even ' enemy death ' will be No more - 1 Corinthians 15:26
So, the sleeping un-conscious dead will awaken from death's deep sleep and have the opportunity to enjoy life forever as originally offered to Adam before his downfall.

I recently lost a 65 yr-old relative to cancer, and you have my deep heartfelt thoughts and prayers.
Could you ever consider that 'death is temporary' until what we find in the Bible as Resurrection Day _________
Not a 24-hr day but a coming ' thousand-year day ' (Jesus' coming Millennium-Long Day of governing over Earth).
Jesus likened his 4-day dead friend as to being asleep. - John 11:17
Jesus was well educated in the old Hebrew Scriptures which teach 'sleep' in death - Psalms 115:17; Ecclesiastes 9:5.
Gospel writer Luke wrote that ' there is going to be ' a resurrection at Acts of the Apostles 24:15.
A future resurrection of both the righteous and unrighteous......
So, "yes" you may very well graduate with honors - righteous honors.
If we are still alive at Jesus' coming Glory Time (Matthew 25:31-34,37) Jesus is bringing ' healing ' for earth's nations.
Healing is a reason why we are invited to pray to God for Jesus to come ! Revelation 22:2, 20.
Come so that No one will say, " I am sick..." as found at Isaiah 33:24.
Come so Earth and its people will be happy-and-healthy as described in Isaiah 35th chapter.
Come so even ' enemy death ' will No longer exist on Earth - 1 Corinthians 15:24-26; Isaiah 25:8.
So, whether we are alive on Earth at Jesus' coming Glory Time, or need Jesus to resurrect us we can be in God's 'safe hands', so to speak, and there is No safer place to be.

Same here. Almost died from heatstroke and went unconscious. It was nothing for me as well. How boring! Why couldn't I have a vision of being on a yacht or something?

I find Isaiah paints a beautiful paradisical word picture for us in Isaiah 35th chapter besides Isaiah 65:21-25.
See or also picture the words found at Revelation 22:2 because Jesus will being ' healing ' to earth's nations.
Then, if we ask, " How are things in Glocamora ? " Yes, what awaits I am sure it's good !

But we die so what purpose does it really serve? Millions of things die every day, and when the chance of survival hits zero how and why did it evolve when it's just another part of life?

Like, we can explain the whys of the changes the brain undergoes when one becomes a parent. We can explain the development of secondary sexual characteristics. We can explain why certain psychological defense mechanisms develop as a response to abuse. We can even see fatal and high-risk mating rituals and appearances (like the black widow female who kills the male or the flamboyant display of a peacock) as being supported by the idea of propagating one's species. It's even been suggested humans got our own longer lifespan (compared to other animals) in part because of our social living and need to help take care of the young.
But what purpose does this "death high" serve?

To make the scariest part of our life, pleasurable ? I don't really have any more of an answer then that.
