A world without the Bible?

Hi,

I'm interested in understanding creationist's world views and beliefs. For any creationists reading this, I'm curious... hard though it may be, if you imagine that the Bible had never been written, how do you think you might view the world and the origins of life? Where would you look for answers?

I know this question might seem silly because the Bible obviously WAS written and the development of history and society have greatly been affected by it- to imagine a world without the Bible would likely imply a world with many differences.... but if you can try to imagine what your beliefs might be like without the Bible, I'd be really interested to hear them!

Thanks for sharing!

Do you think there would still be love and beauty in the world? Do you think that if the Bible had not been written that the world would continue to exist? How do you think you would go about making decisions, formulating beliefs without the Bible?

In this hypothetical world, Jesus could have still lived and shared his teachings... the Bible was simply not written as the codified doctrine of history and beliefs.

Thanks again for sharing!

But without the Bible how would we know his teaching? Would there be another form of writting he would use? In that case wouldn't it be just another "bible" You can't have Jesus without the Bible and You can't have the Bible without Jesus. So I'll make my statement again It would be a sad world.

Who can say how the world would be now?
However I think that Christians and Muslims have done an incredible amount of violence in this world, destroyed cultures and civilisations and distorted other religions that have miraculously survived dispite the attempts to demonise everything by Christians and Muslims.

I honestly think that a wolrd without Abrahamic influence could be a lot more peaceful, a lot more respectful but who knows how history could have turned out. Some other oppressive force might have risen to power and spread around the world.

OK, fair enough. Would you consider yourself a Young Earth Creationist and that every word of the Bible asserts the Truth?

I guess you can call me that. Though I tend stay away from this subject, but I believe the creation story is fact and every word in is the truth and the only thing that can expect to be true.

What do you expect? You have a corrupt Catholic church that corrupted the doctrine of Jesus Christ who taught love and peace. This corrupt church used the word God to gain power and etc... Then you have a religion who was created by an inmoral man so therefore your only result is an inmoral religion. I think if you remove these two factors and the world would have been a lot better place.

I do actually like Jesus as a person and some of his core principles. I just think that more bad has come than good. If eastern religions had become more widely spread the world would have those very same principles that Jesus attempted to teach. I think that every denomination is corrupt, not just Catholicism, and people like Calvin and Luther helped to spread ideas that have resulted in so much hate and bloodshed.

If you would remove the whole corrupt Catholicism you would never have Calvin or Luther instead you would have a One God(non-trinity) Christians spreading Jesus's love not by force, but with persuasive words. Never once did you see the apostles spreading God's word through Violence.

True, I agree but without the original Bible there could never have been the corruptions that have lead to the mass violence that has occurred. You would, however, still have religions that worship God and there would still be the same or similar principles that Jesus taught because these are represented nicely in eastern religions.

So how do you think the world would be now if the bible had never been written in the first place?

I have to disagree with you on there. The bible is not corruptble, but it is the man reading the bible who is corrupt.

I shall restate my first statement on this topic. It would be a sad world because without the bible we wouldn't have Jesus and without Jesus we would die in our sins.

Why does anyone/thing have to?

I personally would not consider myself a Christian, though I believe that Jesus did teach a lot of lovely ways of being. I believe in being free to live, and live life as lovingly as possible. I believe in observing the world around us and thinking critically, thinking for oneself, not believing things just because someone told me to.

But, everyone is entitled to their beliefs and their world views. And if positivity and tolerance is involved in that worldview, I can't bring myself to be too critical.

Thesavorofpan- I'm curious, were you raised as a Christian?

There you go, your using the one thing that Jesus gave us that separates us from angels. Free will.

Actually No I wasn't raised as Christian. Though I would be lying if I said that I didn't go to a couple of church services when I was a kid( I went for the food). I Only consider myself saved for two years. So technically I have only been a Christian for two years, but I study the bible, I just don't take the preachers word for it. I search and look to make sure what he saying is the truth.

My crappy life and the realization that I needed Jesus to be in my life.

You know, a couple beers can also work wonders for a crappy life too!:tigger:

Really, how do you know that you it was Jesus that you needed in your life? Why not Mohammed or Buddah?

It depends on how I was raised. If there never was a Bible and I was raised to believe in the Quran then I would believe in the Quran. If there never was a Bible and I was raised to believe that science has all the answers then I would accept evolution. Of course both of those scenrios depend on if and when I had a supernatural encounter with the creator.
