...about killing babies.

It saddens me when people say out loud that children are necessary to be happy. What is the society doing to people's minds? :(

Children are only necessary for people who want children to be happy. My friend wants children, but she wants the whole enchilada - husband, bungalow, mortgage, RRSP, etc. She had a chance to have a child but turned it down because she wouldn't have had any of the other perks she was looking for. That's one thing when you're 20, quite another when you're in your late 30s.

I am not a buddhist myself, but i have always liked the saying :" Suffering is caused by craving.".

Anyway, do you seriously think your friend would be happy if she had her child like this? Without all the add-ons she expects?

I don't know, but I strongly suspect so. She's an incredibly caring, reasonable well-educated, intelligent and talented woman and will make a great mum if she has kids, with or without a committed partner. She's also a dedicated craver of things she does not have, so yes, she will suffer terribly if she never has kids.

I've got a lot of single mum friends, and it doesn't seem all that bad. Not here, anyway, although there is no associated social stigma in this part of the world - only difficulty paying the bills and finding time for yourself.

In fact, it goes a little beyond that.
If you crave for something, when you have it you are likely to shift you crave to something else. The craving never stops.

I made that question mainly because people often judge others by how they act on the outside. Just because someone seems to be doing fine in our view, it doesn't mean they are. There are some cases where only each person knows what is the right thing for them.

Yes, the bold is what "pro-choice" boils down to. It isn't about abortion, specifically. At this time, we need to be particularly adamant about access to safe, legal abortion because that is what is currently under attack. If, tomorrow, the anti-choice authoritarians shifted the focus of their attacks to condoms, so would we.
