But their presence is why we have an Amish DIR. It wasn't just trying cover everything they could think of. However there's only been a few over the years.
Isn't there a time Amish folk allow their teens to access the nonamish world for a bit? Before they reach adulthood?

Rummspriga. And they get to live outside the Amish community not just before adulthood, but to experience it before making the decision to leave the Amish community or remain a part of it.
But there was a schism in the Amish community some years ago. Some use electricity, LED lightbulbs, motor vehicles, and even computers.

iirc, the dispute is over whether the use of the technology in question is as a tool, or a convenience...and that interpretation has changed over the years...
