Aggregate Biomass, climate change, and talking to deniers

Life isn't a collection of unconnected individuals and communities. It's all connected, in ways that aren't immediately apparent to non-ecologists. We exploit it at our peril.

Wait. They can do that?

WEll. Doesn't that say everything?

Right along with being insulted as 'Wal Mart shoppers" and the "Deplorables...."

People who are treated like that tend not to pay attention to those who use that sort of insult.

I mean, really.....all you intellectually over blown nose in the air twits who figure that if a pair of jeans doesn't cost $300 they aren't worth cutting up for cleaning rags....if, that is, you know what cleaning rags are FOR...at the same time you claim to be 'for the little people,'

Nah.

Over educated, under common sensed, followers of the politically correct mantras handed you by college professors who haven't got a CLUE how the real world works, because they got THEIR educations from equally clueless tenured professors....and reporters who went from college to politically correct media outlets...

Oh, btw....I have several college degrees, including an ABD....try looking down your nose at me and my education and I can cover your diploma with a whole bunch more.

"Wait, can they do that?

Gaaaahhhhhh,

Do you want the other side to listen to you,
& actually consider what you have to say?

They have been sticking their heads in the sand for decades now. If it wasn't a hyper urgent problem we could continue to try logic, reason, data, and politeness. But - sadly - the situation IS hyper urgent and we no longer have time to coddle the willingly ignorant.

Do you expect insults & hostility to change them to your way of thinking?

Shame and/or fear might.

Because they SHOULD be both ashamed and afraid. If society survives, deniers WILL be reviled by future generations.

Climate Change appears to be turning into a witch-hunt with Greta taking on the role of a modern day version of Matthew Hopkins.

Idi Amin thought he was right and woes betide anyone that disagreed with him.

Have you learned science thru fear & shame?

More importantly, have you considered that employing insult,
abuse, & anger to induce fear & shame will make them more
entrenched...thereby actually hurting your cause?

You actually see social or environmental activists like this?!
Those I'm familiar with tend to be impoverished, well-informed idealists unconcerned with money, status or $300 jeans.

As a general approach to interacting with people, we're in agreement. But desperate times..

Ok. I was being silly.

For the record, I've never spoken to anyone about climate who has shifted and inch in response to straight-up science. IRL, with friends, they just evade or change the subject and on here it's much worse.

Also, $300 jeans are like a crime against sense.

I will continue working on you.

We've been trading posts for almost 6 years now - wow! I'm pretty sure we share some core values, like valuing: logic, evidence, and predictability.

Climate change deniers don't make those values their top priorities. So how do you talk logically with a person who doesn't value logic? How do you use evidence to talk to a person who doesn't value evidence?
