This is my literary my first time on this website and I hope to be in the right place for answers. For starters I was raised to be a catholic, in fact I was a true catholic when I was younger I went years in question of God. I didnt know if I still wanted to believe, or if at all I could again after what had happened to me. For a while I stopped thinking about it but it just kept coming up. So Im pretty much am going through every religion and belief there is until I find the one. Currently I find its easiest to say that I'm agnostic. But hopefully Id like to meet someone going through something similar whos not judgmental and can talk freely...

There are plenty of people like you, searching for truth. I think that even a lot of people who already label themselves under a religious umbrella are still searching.
Just know that there is no hurry to understand reality. It is a life journey, or according to my beliefs, the journey of our soul through many lifetimes.

I think that you should make a list on what you believe in. Like, do you believe in a God, the Soul, Reincarnation, heaven, hell, and so on.
When you done with the list match it up with what religion fits best and see if that works for you. Or, you could just go to Beliefnet.com and do the Belief-o-matic

When I was younger, I had questioning myself for if I'm on the right side. I had always that thought, for if I weren't born a Muslim. Would I be Muslim or Would I be defending whatever I were raised on. I started reading about other religions and I still do. It is good that you think that way for most of the people tend to defending their religions blindly without trying to think if that is real or being proven in reality or even at least looking for some evidences that agrees with whatever found in scriptures. At the end, it is your choice and you are the only one who can decide what to be true and not be true for you. However, from personal view, the true religion isn't supposed to fit or satisfy our desires, but rather it must be real and does't contradict with simple facts in life.

the same question I used to ask myself, but I've never reached to answer.
sometimes I describe myself as an Agnostic Muslim, but as you know this means that I'm out of faith circle.
Another point in which I think about: Islam "and any religion" believes that the other religions' follower will go to the hell and when we ask why the answer is because he should search to find the right religion beside everyone has born a Muslim but his parents convert or leave him in Islam.
So I asked myself what if the right is with another religion, maybe the Hinduism is the wright and I should search out all religions to find the truth. but it will take all my life.
In general if I go to other life and God asked my why weren't you a good Muslim, the answer will be these are all I could reach it, so please forgive me. :shout

For instance, I think that many people follow and tend to stick for whatever they were raised on and defined it as the absolute reality. So it is really good that you think in that way and I really admire people who think in that way. Even in Qur'an, I don't think that God (Allah) forced us to believe in him, but he asked (human) to travel around in the universe looking for evidences. So it is not as simple as that I'was born Muslim so that I'm Muslim, but being Muslim or whatever must stem and raise from understanding and complete conviction that it is the right path, not because it fits what I like, but because it is simply the right path.
The search is to find out for yourself what makes sense. You will know in your heart was is true for you. Religion may be a starting point or a dead end. You may want to check out what other faiths have to offer; Buddhism, Tao, Zen, liberal/progressive Christianity. Life is not a destination, its a journey.

That is exactly why I'm on this site , i'm searching to. I grew up in a Christian household, and I'm question. I consider myself agnostic, maybe we can help each other.

Yes, the Qur'an contains many harsh things, brutal things. You can look at the words of the prophet Jesus and find much nicer, more humane things and ask, "how could this be, if Jesus was a Muslim, too?" Well, the answer is the time and place. The Qur'an was sent to a people who were mostly polytheists, so they had to be given an oversimplification, just the basics of monotheism. The people Jesus spoke to already were monotheists, so he didn't need to brutally thrust monotheism onto them and he could occupy himself with the ethical teachings, see? God sends revelation to each people according to the people's experience and maturity. Take the Guru Granth Sahib, too. It doesn't deny the Qur'an, but affirms it. It, too, is for a more spiritually mature people, that's all. Again, take the Torah; a lot of its commandments are, in our eyes, terrible and offensive. But it was sent to a very immature people in order to teach them obedience and to teach them to follow the one God. So take everything in context.
As a strong agnostic, weak theist, I know what you're going through. Iw as raised christian too and have recently left the faith entirely. I too would liek to look at every religion and belief. Unfortunately it can take years to truly understand a religion. If you want to talk, or ask questions, then fire away.
I think that website might be good for starters. I wouldn't take it as absolute though. People's beliefs change over time, especially when they start exploring and examining. Also I think your last piece of advice is golden ^-^

I struggle with the concepts of god (in whatever form). Most religions are based on a concept of god 5000 years old. Many have tried to update their beliefs in order to mesh with some social aspects but little else. If there is a god (I'm not intelligent enough to know for sure), he would be a god that has created a universe which is basically beyond our comprehension. That ranges from microbiology to ultramassive galaxies.

Catholic faith is built on paganistic rituals. What i mean is tradition is good but only when its spiritually guided. If you want to find God you must look to connect to the Holy Spirit. Faith is personal but must make sense and be productive. Agnostic belief is not productive. It is seeing a mountain without taking steps to climb it. Spirituality in practice is seeing a mountain and then preparing oneself to climb it and focusing on using the tools, which were explained how to use by the master. The Holy Spirit.
