Perhaps. But if part of the plan is to "shift" fence sitters
or others not on board with the topic, she will probably do
more to discredit than win support.

here are some thoughts cut and pasted from a mysterious source

If these weren't desperate times, I would agree. But the article assumes that we can avert disaster using the existing processes, and I don't believe we can.

I think it is more than a little highly probable that
CO2 will prove the undoing of humankind.

this stuff- oligarchy, a weakened middle class, a fragile economy and infrastructure.. (why not toss in invasive carp?)

is to the extent it exists, chronic, not acute.

I am concerned that nutty talk like "12 years"
will do more harm than good

If one really believes such talk, why even bother
to worry about infrastructure?

Titanic, deck chairs?

You make good points. But I would say that the best solutions will attack several problems at once. For example, if we really shift to renewables, that should create millions of jobs.

I dont think she has any substance to her, and
that her career will be what is known as a
"flash in the pan".
I remember thinking that about Trump.

Long before the RNC National Convention. Back when I thought that his flagrant violation of all that's Christian would send the Republican nomination to any of the many choices before him.

Turned out there's no such thing as Christian ethics or morality.
Or something like that.
Christian morality is why I assumed that Kasich or Cruz would wind up the nominee for the Republican party.
Nope.

When I make a point, there is no "but".

WWMRD?
She may not have to worry about politics if recent allegations prove true, her Chief of Staff is claimed to have funneled $900,000 of political donations into his private companies and AOC is implicated as well.

How do you think that would play out?

Oh you know, the standard tactics: protests, riots, strikes, maybe some assassinations - ugly stuff.

But the point is that the Oligarchs and their lapdogs in DC continue to behave as though the country and the world have an infinite capacity to be abused and pillaged without consequences. They're wrong.

That would be too bad, because the world really needs folks like her now.

If the allegations prove true it would seem that type of corruption would be the complete antithesis of much of her platform, just another politician that talks the talk for votes but doesn't walk the walk.

Nice piece. The journalist describes how AOC is shifting the Overton window without using the phrase Overton window.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Is Coming for Your Hamburgers!

She's not shifting anything but the content of the meme's I see regularly. :D

My impression is she's dumber than a box of rocks, and that she won an uncontested race -- literally anyone running could have taken her seat. That speaks nothing of the validity of any of her ideas. :D

You're wrong. She's consistently making the GOP react. That's an excellent sign. She's also making top ranking Dems react, another good sign.

As we say in the game of Go, "She has sente".

Didn't you already make that point?

She's making them react with lolz, mostly. Not exactly the impression you want to set.

Anyway, all she needs is a contender in her district in the next run-off and she's hosed. I'm sure the Republicans and her fellow Democrats are already working on that.

Of course, if you're a politician who is in the pocket of oligarchs, the last thing you want is another politician to upset your apple cart. What I'm inferring from your posts is that you think things in DC are hunky dory. If that's the case, then of course you won't think much of AOC. But if you're alarmed (as you should be), then I'd be curious to hear what better approach you'd recommend?

Or maybe she read a U.N. report put out by the world’s leading climate scientists. Maybe she has educated herself on the topic and knows what she is talking about.

We have 12 years to limit climate change catastrophe, warns UN

(p.s. it is closer to 11 years now. The clock is ticking)

The twit probably does not have an original or
studied notion in her head, so she got it (12 yrs)
from somewhere.

And if you dont mind me aspersing your friends, I am not
super duper impressed by the UN either.

It was before I was born that a Paul Erlich wrote about
the limits of growth and showed with some clarity that
doom, grim and importunate...but you probably know
all about this.

Now, I do not have a good feeling about what
is happening in the world, and maybe she has
some value as a Pauline Revere.

What do you think?
