So by "I agree with this guy", you meant "I only agree with some parts of what this guy is saying and disagree with others"?

I guess so but a major portion of his post had nothing to do with atheism becoming cult-like if you had taking the time to read it. It had to deal with what I pointed out.

I agree with him. Talking about how God doesn't exist or how there is no afterlife does nothing. Talking about atheism does nothing. Doing battle with religious people accomplishes nothing. Atheism will not solve world peace nor will it put food in the mouths of hungry children.
Really? Then would you say the same about all religions? That talking about beliefs and doing battle with atheists accomplishes nothing? If so, why are you here? Also, the last bit is a bit harsh, are you saying there aren't atheists or atheists groups that volunteer to help those less fortunate?

Well anybody is entitled to their definition of atheism, but I define religion as a much higher concept than God, so I like to think of atheism as the lack of religion and religious behavior. And I think that's what really matters. For thousands of years people have known that the existence of a God is something we can never know or prove, so it's pretty much a gut feeling.
Well the definition most people would use is lack of belief in a god and that's it. Atheism is a lack of religious behavior because it is not a religion and I don't see how talking about it or having meetings with other like minded individuals classifies it as a religion. I like to smoke hookah. If I meet up with a group of friends and we all smoke and talk about hookah does that classify it as a religion? I'm just not following. Atheism has no holy book, no dogma or rules to follow, it is simply a response to one question. Does a God(s) exist?

Religion and religious behavior, which is accepting popular old age beliefs or words of wisdom told by so-called holly people without challenging them or trying to adapt them to the current times, is the real issue. Not God.
Well I agree, that is certainly a beast of it's own, especially finding a way to prevent children from being indoctrinated to accept such beliefs at such an early age.

But belief in a specific deity is an issue in itself. Whether someone believes in a god or not does not bother me (well it does a bit on a personal level because I just don't get it, but it's not detrimental to me and I respect their right to believe that) but when they use that belief in God to push an agenda and legislate laws telling other people how to live their lives based on their beliefs, that's a big problem.
