Americans prefer a Muslim over an atheist for president

Curious as to how you define "religion"?

It's not my word, and not my definition. Back when I was a full blown atheist somewhere in my 20s, I had a lengthy discussion/debate with another atheist friend, and after a lot of research, we noticed that the definitions themselves have varied throughout history. Therefore what kept the same meanings? A personal belief or philosophy based on ones existence. This was the common denominator. But some people confuse one of the synonyms, theism, for religion, and that is how we get confused. I'm not alone on this interpretation. I know people disagree, that's fine, but it's a contradiction to say it's possible to have no religion, when you're personal religion consists of a religion.

If you say so. I can't debate denial.

Look, I acknowledge that there are several definitions of the word 'religion' just as there are several definitions of the word 'atheist'.
But I have tried (both in this tread and in the past) to make clear which definitions I think apply to me and how I see it.
I have no problem wit agreeing to disagree, and in any case, as long as both parties understand what the other means, it's not really that important. ^_^

Fine, then whose definition are you using and what is it? If it's simply "A personal belief or philosophy based on ones existence" then Existentialism and Realism qualify as religions.

I would like to have a president who is secular, and if religious does not wear his or her religion on their sleeve. I want a president who can separate their religion if they have one from the job.

I agree. I feel that a Muslim president would trouble not being influenced by Shariah, just as some previous Christian presidents have been inflenced by Christianity.
