Technically, I am American.

I don't generally use the identifier when describing my personhood, but that's for personal socio-political reasons.

Just curious... For all the Americans that don't want to be American what nationality do you want to be and why?

I know the question isn't addressed to me, but I felt like giving my two cents.

I don't like borders. They're human constructs and hope someday we can be mature enough to get rid of them... As it is now, unfortunately, with all the wars and so on, not going to happen.

I'd prefer to be identified as an Earthling, or Human. It's more unifying and less divisive. :D

I think the only way you truly only identify yourself as an Earthling, or Human, is if we not only got rid of borders, but also culture.

Getting rid of borders is something that could theoretically happen in the distant future. Culture on the other hand will never go away. It will only change.

Not saying it is like this for anybody here...seems becoming common that it's one more thing which is supposed to conjure up shame/guilt/contempt for a person to be as P.C. and trendy as possible.

The people most vocal about their pride and joy in being American usually started out elsewhere.

I disagree. To say Earthling or Human would be the equivalent of saying you're American minus the imaginary borders. It doesn't tell me anything about your culture. There's no one culture in a country, there are many.

Some non-imperial nationality. Some non-aggressive country that doesn't go stomping roughshod all over the world exploiting peoples and generating terrorists.

The Scandinavian countries might be nice, or the Netherlands. Switzerland's quite nice -- armed to the teeth, to be sure, but it's only expeditionary force is armed with halberds and wears silly costumes.
Costa Rica has no military and is a natural paradise.
Australia and New Guinea very lovely places, and people speak English, though I worry that being upside-down all the time might give me a headache.
Of course, my easiest move might be our northern neighbor, Canada. Beautiful place, laid back people, and I could bundle up for the climate.

So, what's stopping you from moving?
