Fairfield Man Arrested For Allegedly Biting Nose Off Infant Son « CBS San Francisco
An 18-year-old Fairfield man has been arrested for biting the nose off of his infant son, police said. Fairfield Police said they received a phone call from a hysterical female saying her infant child was bleeding from its nose.
Doctors at North Bay Medical Center determined the infant’s nose had been severed and the child had possible head trauma, according to the police press release.
The infant was later taken to Oakland Children’s Hospital where doctors determined the 1-month-old infant had a skull fracture, a brain hemorrhage, and a third of the child’s nose had been severed off, according to the release.
Investigators determined the father, Joshua Cooper, had bitten his son’s nose off out of frustration over the infant crying, police said.

Wow, who does that? Seriously what is the thought process that leads to biting off a kids nose because he's crying? I can't imagine being so mad at something that my first thought is to bite it's nose off. And now the taxpayers have to pay tens of thousands of dollars a year to keep him alive. I'll stop here because I know I'll break the forums rules if I go on more.

"Dang kid is crying. I know! If I bite off his nose, he'll settle down."

I actually pity him. Not just because he is mentally dysfunctional, but because he will (no doubt) be sent to prison.

In prison, many murderers, robbers, arsonists and other criminals can tend to have an intensity of self-righteousness that amazes reasonable people. Many of these same criminals will have an irresistible desire to wreak vengeance upon this 'soon-to-be' convict, and isolation cells are unlikely to save him. In this way, other criminals can prove that they are actually more decent than him.

He will never know the day, hour or minute that a mistake will leave him exposed to 'Hell on Earth'. Or the next....... or the next......

God does not pay his debts with money.....

Who cares? If he got brutally killed, the world wouldn't have lost anything. Good riddance.

Don't pity him, he deserves it. And more.

We'll have to wait to know if he goes to jail or prison. Depending on his past behavior and record, he may get jail, in-home arrest, mandatory anger management therapy, there are just too many variables to know how a judge (who is another variable in this case) will sentence him. And when you are in an isolated cell, you are isolated. Here (in America) it's where they stick the physically disabled to keep them from the rest of the population. But unless he is physically disabled (and in need of a crutch, cane, or whatever) and/or in need of medical equipment (such as an oxygen tank) or proves himself to be uncooperative with guards, a threat to other inmates or on permanemt bad behavior, he will not be put in isolation.
And why feel sorry for him? He fractured his child's skull, hemorrhaged the brain, and bit his child's nose off. Pity on this man is only wasted pity, as he attacked his own son because he could not handle his own responsibilities (emphasis added to show how much of this actually falls on him). If we are to feel sorry for anyone, it is the child who may now have brain damage from the hemorrhage, and who will live the rest of his life with a scarred nose (or a prosthetic one) because of his own father could not control himself.

To bite off the nose of an infant should result in life imprisonment, IMO. Unless he has some clear biological disorder easily & reliably cured, this man cannot be rehabilitated. To bite the nose off a baby is an unfathomably cruel attack, symptomatic of more than just anger or garden variety sociopathy.

That is very true. I don't have any kids of my own, but I've helped to raise my fair share of them from my brother and sister (four kids from my sister, one biological and four step with my brother) to know what the stress and frustration, days and weeks of lost sleep, and having to adjust your plans and behaviors is like. But I've never considered hurting them because I was frustrated over trying to get them to stop crying. I even realize that sometimes they are just going to cry, and there is nothing you can really do except let them cry until they are done crying.
Maybe this guys punishment should include a match against Mike Tyson?

It's awesome that there's so many specialists in criminal justice who know which individuals can and cannot be rehabilitated. I hope you all are working for your local jail/prison so you can sort people out there. It would save our local, state and federal governments so much money to have experts like those in this thread.

Seriously, I work in the field and this is all emotionally based junk. Have fun with your two minutes of hate.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
It clearly psychotic behavior. He obviously needs segregation from society because atypically he will hurt or kill again in the future. This man is both dangerous and very unstable as proven by his actions.

There are reasons juries are not comprised of threads from message boards.

Probably was on drugs when he did it or was abused as a child himself. I feel sorry for everyone involved. It's horribly sad.

There is a hierarchy among criminals. Child abusers are the lowest and deserve to be.

I don't feel pity

My initial thoughts as well.

I'm curious as to whether drugs and/or alcohol were a factor here as well.

Sick, sad and unfortunate.

That's what I thought, I could only imagine his mental state when he did this. There has to be some sort of mental illness involved.

And there is nothing wrong for feeling compassion for all those affected by this.
