John Cleese rants - Soccer vs Football - YouTube

In all seriousness, your game has grown on me enormously since the 98 World Cup. One of the negatives for people that might be interested in soccer in the US is that the game is simply not played at the same level in the MLS (Major League Soccer) as it is in the top European leagues. It doesn't flow nearly as well and teams have far more trouble keeping possession of the ball. I enjoy at the top level of soccer watching teams control the ball,, looking for passing lanes, and I like the geometric patterns utilized to create their attacks. The play in MLS can often be described as a clustertruck verses the play in Europe . While I love all our brothers from across the pond I can't get into watching teams from Manchester playing some team from Chelea or Liverpool. And Cleese makes an interesting point about creativity. The players in our brand of football have absolutely no leeway to be creative with the exception of, to a very small degree, the ball carrier looking for running lanes. Quite the contrary, the player must resist any urge to deviate from his set of instructions. It's the most complex game I've ever played or watched by far. The instructions given to each one of the 11 men both on offense and defense are so complex that it doesn't make it easily accessible for people new to the sport. Once the different positions are understood, the game transforms from being just a bunch of guys running into each other into a war, a war with a front line and different categories of weapons such as tanks, infantry, air power, etc. each complementing the other to create one cohesive unit.

But you had David Beckham :p. But yeah I don't dislike American Football, I quite enjoy watching it despite the fact that I don't know a great deal about it. I know a lot of the basics like how to score and fouls etc. but not a lot about the positions and roles.

I thought he came to the US so he could enroll in Social Security (popular insurance program for senior citizens)

I'm really looking forward to tonights battle (erm, game) between David and Goliath.

I'm hoping above hope that David can pull it off, topple the giant, and ruin Frau Merkel's evening.

edit: Portugal are the same (Can't stand them)

I don't think that is the problem i am not sure why i dislike the Italian clubs and its International Club. I agree on Portugal though except for there national clubs such as Porto and Benifica.
