Anyone change their mind yet about May 21st 2011?

Nah, if you don't want to be with God on that day, no worries, just chill out here and have fun, and when you die it will be over. No eternal punishment or anything.

I might be here with you enjoying the fireworks

Out of curiosity, does Camping believe and teach that death for those who aren't selected, will be the end - no eternal punishment?

I quoted the exact dates YOUR man Campings claims.

The earth is indeed 4 billions years old, and the universe is indeed over ten billion. These are scientific facts, scientific facts YOUR man Campings ignores.

He has exactly Zero credibility.

I stand corrected. Hoever, my statment is still rpetty accurate, I think.

The more listeners he has, the more he can rake in.

See above.
Look you were wrong about him selling commercials, you are wrong about the flood dates, by 700 years, so what is your problem?

If you want to talk than let's talk, but posting false claims, and then telling me you dismantled me, just doesn't look to good.

Seriously man, calm down and let's talk like adults. If you can't do that, please move on, or continue littering, I don't really care, but so far you are 1 for 3.

  • Yes around 11,000 bc, but actually 11,023 bc
  • No not 4200 bc, it was 4990 bc the flood
  • No commercial advertising.

I get your passion, but you would do better to take it much slower.

yes without out a doubt, from May 21st until October 21st 2011, there will be a nasty judgment, but after that it is over for everyone not saved.

Oh and incidentally he use to believe in an eternal hell, but never spoke of it much, cause it didn't make much sense to him, but he no longer believes the bible teaches such a thing.

That's comforting, I suppose.

I made an attempt to read the tract but couldn't get beyond the first paragraph. This statement hurts me to my core.

"If Christ has not paid the penalty for your sins, you will experience the full wrath of God."

I know there are many different brands of Christianity out there...but me...this statement makes me ill.

The price has been paid through Christ's death and resurrection. The ticket, if you will, has been purchased. We choose whether or not we jump on board and follow Christ, but the ticket is paid for.

Christ gave us life on the cross...not death.

Hi Dawny, I am not sure what to say, but thank you for sharing your experience with me.
The declaration above is certainly tough, as we learn the word of God is likened to a double edged sword dividing even to the soul and spirit.

What about the above bothers you? I am confused by your response.

I know there are many different brands of Christianity out there...but me...this statement makes me ill.
I'd like to learn more about why.

I am not sure I really disagree with you here. Sounds OK to me, but like I said I would like to learn more, so I am sure I understand your position, and be sure you understand mine. Then see where we differ.

I agree Jesus gave us life at the cross, but in order to do that he had to pay for our sins, and in doing so defeated Satan's greatest weapon... death.

You mean it's gonna be Judgement Day?

On Sept. 6, 1994, dozens of Camping's believers gathered inside Alameda's Veterans Memorial Building to await the return of Christ, an event Camping had promised for two years. Followers dressed children in their Sunday best and held Bibles open-faced toward heaven.
But the world did not end. Camping allowed that he may have made a mathematical error. He spent the next decade running new calculations, as well as overseeing a media company that has grown significantly in size and reach.

The number 5, Camping concluded, equals "atonement." Ten is "completeness." Seventeen means "heaven." Camping patiently explained how he reached his conclusion for May 21, 2011.
"Christ hung on the cross April 1, 33 A.D.," he began. "Now go to April 1 of 2011 A.D., and that's 1,978 years."
Camping then multiplied 1,978 by 365.2422 days - the number of days in each solar year, not to be confused with a calendar year.
Next, Camping noted that April 1 to May 21 encompasses 51 days. Add 51 to the sum of previous multiplication total, and it equals 722,500.
Camping realized that (5 x 10 x 17) x (5 x 10 x 17) = 722,500.
Or put into words: (Atonement x Completeness x Heaven), squared.
"Five times 10 times 17 is telling you a story," Camping said. "It's the story from the time Christ made payment for your sins until you're completely saved.

Good TW, you are researching. Maybe your bias won't completely hinder your efforts. Either way, it's cool, please save me a beer if it doesn't happen.

One interesting note, is unlike many other who have attempted to do such things, Camping has never, nor ever will declare "God told him". He admits to doing the research on his own, and with no angel talking in his ear. He welcomes people to challenge his views and help him find more truth if he is wrong somewhere.
I am not sure how much more open he can be.

I get that it ****** MANY people off, both Christians and non-Christians. However he is not hiding ANYTHING, and gives all material for free, lives quite humbly, and reads the bible

People are making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Camping's timeline is wrong in reference to how the world was created.

Very wrong. How open is he to the overwhelming evidence of an Earth that is much older than he professes?

Good question. He has written a few books on the topic, and admittedly it may be pseudoscience.

I think he makes an error by trying to answer things that NO one can answer. For example. He thinks God's plan for the current human specie started in 11,023 BC. While I agree his timeline is mind blowing, I don't see why the actual Earth had to be formed then, but rather a new creation began then.

In other words, I have no problem keeping his timeline, and also accepting that dinosaurs were part of a completely different creation before we came along. Something we can only speculate on.

Admittedly, that is not what camping teaches, but I never claimed to believe he is God and is perfect, nor does he claim that. As such, certain things he offers are amazing, and others may not be as great.

And you're quite positive of his 2011 prediction? Given his inconsistencies?
It isn't much different than asking my brother about tiling, which he knows very well. I am quite comfortable believing he is right about that. However my brother is also an avid yoga practitioner, but maybe not as good as he is at tiling, and even further he knows how to use a chain saw, but I will never ask him to help me cut a tree down.

I try not to judge people overall for shortcoming in certain areas. Camping has attempted to look at science, and I suspect so much time and attention has been required for his regular studies that he dismisses science to quickly, cause he can't reconcile certain things.

Example, because science says the universe i 14 some odd billion years old, and camping thinks God start 11,023 BC, it is like he hasn't stopped to consider that maybe just our creation started then.

So yes I consider all he teaches very closely, as I do anyone I study, and I give them the benefit of the doubt until I am done studying. I find in Camping a genuine heart and interest, albeit trigger happy with scientific issues. As far as I can tell, it doesn't effect this time line at all.

Thanks for asking...

Here's the thing I'm not stupid. I don't know anyone that thinks I am stupid.
I know how to read something, research something and evaluate the material.

You people make me think something is wrong with my brain for taking the time to take this Camping guy seriously, long enough to find out if he is correct and if not correct where is he wrong.

For me it is not about a love for Camping, but it is a personal interest in the subject matter. It is like if I was into Sci-Fi stuff, I would spend time reading about science and Star-Trek and stuff. Well I have an interest in religion and philosophy, and like it or not, end of time is a major topic within those two things. Whether we are talking about death, end of the world, life, or other deep philosophical questions.

Camping's theories are no less fantasy, than all the religions in the world. We can prove none of them, yet we stay interested.

Last thing, do you all just not like talking about the end of the world stuff? I know my wife doesn't, so if that is the case with you guys, I will gladly stop. Sorry for the trouble...

Of course he's trigger happy with the science that refutes his timeline. If he presumes his Bible exempt from being falsifiable, he inevitably refuses any evidence that challenges his theology.

Which is what his timeline is: it isn't based on scientific evidence. He is a theologian. And therefore suspect when making predictions that involve the natural world.

For the record, IWE, I never thought you're stupid.

My thoughts are more in line with seeing just how charismatic people can be convincing....with a message that essentially reads, "trust me, I know this stuff."

Camping seems to me to fall in this category.

Mole hill? And who'se the one who created this dooms day thread?

BTW, the source of insanity doesn't matter, Camping is still mad.

Just because he doesn't claim audial hallucinations from your god doesn't give him even one iota of credibility.
