Apparently talking to yourself could be a good thing

I kind of suspected this.
No you didn't.
Shut the hell up.

(Well ok, maybe it isn't always a good thing)

I always talk to myself , well more like mumble to myself. Remember Herman's Head? Well that's me. *grin*

I find the key is to be able to laugh and say something directly to the person looking at you with uncertain fear when caught talking to yourself in public. Some really do look as though you're disturbed! Or at least I get those looks. LOL

Back when we were in the tall grass with spears, aka having a terminal room with a few shared terminals connected to mainframes and the like, one day I observed everyone was talking to him- or herself.

So I know that is good. Even arguing with oneself is fine. Losing the argument with yourself is, as we used to say, "one toke over the line"

I believe most people have an internal monologue and therefore talk to themselves.
I have maladaptive daydreaming whereby I have a compulsion to disassociate by talking to myself and creating imaginary scenarios in my head. I do this on a daily basis and it can last usually up to an hour at a time or even longer with breaks.
I’ve read it is more common for people on the autism spectrum and for people with childhood traumas.
The only other person I know who does this has been diagnosed with ADHD, OCD and she suspects she may also be autistic.

When I was young I remember hearing people say its ok and normal to talk to yourself. But when you start answering yourself, there is an issue. lol
