Are Playing Cards Evil ???

nutshell

Blah blah blah blah blah...if there's a risk you are taking with your money by putting it out there on anything with the hope of a better return...it is gambling. Twist around your definitions all you want. Make all the excuses you think will fly with the pigs. It doesn't matter. It is still a form of gambling.

There's nothing inherently wrong with gambling. Let's make that clear. But to say one thing is gambling and is bad and another form of gambling isn't really gambling and therefore ok is just lying to yourself. Have some consistency. Certain people here seem to think that gambling is bad...unless they are the ones doing it in a certain form...thereby excusing themselves. Screams of hypocrisy to me.

apples and oranges

do you not have a retirement plan? that seems irresponsible.

Apples and oranges are both fruits, just different kinds of fruits. Playing poker and playing the stock market are both gambling, just different forms.

Did I say anything about having a retirement plan or not having one? No. Did I say there was anything wrong with having one? No. As a matter of fact I believe I said that there was nothing inherently wrong with gambling now didn't I? It is those people here that seem to think that gambling is bad but then say that their form of gambling isn't gambling is what I find to be hypocritical.

FFH,
NO!!! Playing cards is not against God's law.
Gambling with cards is against the principles of Christianity. The Bible tells us that we should be looking out for the other person, not trying to get the things he has, 1Cor 10:23,24,32,33, Phil 2:3,4.
Consider Paul's reasoning, Rom 13:8-10.
And 1Cor 6:12, Titus 1:15.
We need to be careful, because there is a term, Jesuitism, Casuistry. This is the principle of doing something because it is not explicitly condemned in the Bible. Everything condemned is not stated, but principles are clear about all things. There is no principle against playing cards, anymore than playing any game in which there is a winner and a loser. If you take that idea to the extreme we would not be able to do hardly anything, because almost any game is some competition, Gal 5:26, 6:4.
Everything has to do with your mental attitude, as Paul explains, when writing to Titus, Titus 1:15.
