Are there any contradictions in the Bible?

Justify? Explain please what you mean by "justify".
I have to ask. Why is it important to you that the bible be errant or in errant?
What meaning is there in an errant/inerrant bible?
I will say what I do when I come across an inconsistancy in the bible.
I investigate, try to uncover why there is a perceived inconsistancy.
Christain religion is important to me. It's personal, as it should be.
I come to these internet sites to learn, to exchange ideas, find support, learn references, dig up the Truth.
It ain't easy.
What IS easy is to denounce God, Jesus, the entire bible as nonsense, irrelevant, childish, having no meaning
in today's world.
It must be very easy to be an athiest or anti-thiest.
First of all, I am not an atheist sir. I walk a spiritual patn which contains my view of who and what God is. Second I come here for the same reasons as you. To learn and exchange ideas. The reason I ask is that it is clear that there are contradictions and if one believes in a faith based on a book, and mine one journey does not, then that person must believe that that book is truth. Yet, there are those pesky contradictions. Still, just for the record, I use and believe that the bible is a resource for finding truth. However, I als believe men wrote it. Nor do I believe Christ was in any way divine. I am just asking as I am writing a dissertation on faith and people's view of God, including differences and commonalities and I am curious, hence, the questions.

It was written by several different authors, and translated by many more. How can we reasonably expect it to not have contradictions?

I've personally found the so-called historical contradictions to be reasoned away quite easily unless you are referring to something inconsequential like the number found in 1 Samuel 6:19.

Its harder then you think.

As a self proclaimed biblically educated atheist, I wont let anyone mark the bible as nonsense, or childish, or having no meaning. I think you need to support your position because I don't know any atheist that claim that either.

Not it is easy to claim they used mythology and rhetoric because they did. It was the culture they lived in. It does not degrade from the beauty it enhances it.

Just because we don't want to let literalist ruin the beauty, by pointing out the known academic historical truth in knowledge and education known today, does not mean we denounce it.

Literalist? Same as a fundamentalist?
I joined a forum that is labled as a Christian debate forum. Athiests outnumber thiests at least 8 to 1.
Many athiests are PhD educated, or so they claim. Most are fantastic at debate. I only read things there, occasionally post,
and have learned a great deal about debate.
Most all the athiests that post there demean the bible, flat out call Jesus a muderer, claim Jehovah is a myth, turns followers
into slaves, condemns unrepentant sinners to burn in hellfire, damned forever, is three "gods" in one then posit that Christians are really pagans as Christians are obviously believing in 3 gods, not one.
One self proclaimed athiest there has well over 7,000 post to his credit(?). Explains that having sex with an animal
isn't a sin or a crime, that it's simply a form of masterbation. That man is a Phd physics professor.
When a Christian attempts to answer a debate question posted by an atheist he is rebuked with the demand that
one cannot use scripture to support belief in "god".
On that board athiests post with incessant regularity that "god" cannot be real then demand scientific evidence to
"prove" faith which cannot be proven.
When they aren't demeaning god they demean Jesus, when not demeaning them they condemn believers as being irrational.
I don't post much there but I do read with fascination the outright hostility for Christians.
There is a forum for Islam. No one posts anything there, not for years.
Naturally I have a poor image of athiests as a group, not as individuals.

O.K. You are not an atheist. I'm glad for you as I am not one either.
I too am curious and I do investigate those pesky contridictions and when the truth is found it seems
those contradictions are not.
I don't believe in the pagan based trinity either.

Pagan based trinity? What is that exactly? Never have I come across a pagan who believed in a trinical idea of who or what God/desses are. They may have multiple deities but trinical? No. As for the contradictions, they do exist and if you find truth and renounce the contradictions, lovely. However that does not negate the fact that they continue to exist.

Pagan based trinity? What is that exactly?

Just do a basic web search for 'ancient pagan trinities' and look at the pics page.

Babylons had the sun-god Shamash, the moon god Sin, and the star god Ishtar worshipped as a triad.
Egypt followed the same pattern, worshipping Osiris, Isis, and Horus.
Assyria’s chief god, Asshur, is portrayed as having three heads.

Wow. I am left to wonder why you are here if you have so much negativity toward a place such as this. And your attitude toward atheists is stereotypic at best. I have never denigrated anyone about their faith and in fact, regularly state that I am one who encourages belief, whatever that might be.
As for the hatred you speak of, and I do not see it as hated, although I have seen some very strongly worded posts which I don't agree work, what of the hatred posited toward those who choose to not be Christian? Or those who tell everyone not Christian they are dammed and going to hell? This works two ways you see. I am left to wonder, with all this anger, why your faith is so weak as to not be able to have that faith in the face of differing views? No, there is no evidence of God, or Christ and that the bible is divinely inspired. So? All of the things said do not in any way shake my faith. Why does it trouble yours so much?.

There is a difference between what was believed then. No modern pagan I have ever met believes in a trinical concept. Of course I am familiar with gods and goddesses that are grouped in threes. And bottom line is that Christ, God and etc, are trinical. That is not something one finds in the pagan community today,

The pagan community today is not the pagan community 2,000 years ago.
Where did I demonstrate negativity about this board.
I referenced another "Christian debate forum" not this one.
I refered to the way athiests post there, not here.
I don't know anything about any pagan community.
I can't find a definition of the word trinical that you use.

I apologize jaeger , I may have misunderstood your post and 'heard' a negative tone where there was none. You are correct that the pagan community of today is not like that of 2000 years ago but there are many similarities. There is actually a very large pagan community today. Surprisingly, here in my state, the university of same has pagan ministers, the biggest hospital has one and there is a rather good graduate level school, offering multiple pagan tracts, including ordination. I use the word trinical to refer to the idea or concept of a three tier God system. IE: God, Christ and the Holy Ghost, etc. in that regard, I know of no current pagan groups using a thre tiered God or goddess grouping.
As for how atheists post here, I have seen some that are ..how shall I say?... Rather harshly worded but I have also seen some by religious folks that are just as bad or worse.

I have been asking the taboo question of "Are their contradictions in the Bible?"

I have posted my findings from the past couple years.

What do you think? Are there any contradictions in the Bible?

Bible Contradictions... Are there any?
I don't think it's worth answering that question, because I see only scriptures from mistranslated Bibles. Even mistranslating one word changes hundreds, if not thousands of scriptures. The translations people are quoting here are filled with HUNDREDS of mistranslated words. I prefer an ACCURATE translation.

Jo. I don't care in the least about pagans.
The only Pagans I ever knew were a motorcycle club, an outlaw club and members sometimes wanted to kill me.
The club president, Tiny Martinez, was killed by Federal agents.
What a loss to humanity that was.
I'm a Christian and have no interest in things pagan.

O.K. enough stupid stuff.
I DO NOT know. Really I don't.
I am quite serious about being a Christian, not part of Christendom. Now about "accurate" translations.....wow.
Tough call. I'm interesting, deeply so, in J.W. doctrine but I'm not baptized nor have I completed the required bible
study to become a baptized J.W.
All I can do is be honest with no assertion, no gimicks, no tricks with words to make me sound more educated
or intelligent than I am.
I started college late in life. I was 49, earned an ***'t degree in applied sciences then went to Geneva College
and earned a bachelors in human resources. Geneva is a Christian university and our first text book was a
N.I.V. bible. We were required to read select chapters and verses and write essay after essay about what we
read.
Lots of essays, before we moved on to the boring statistical data of H.R.
I got interested in how one seemingly insignificant Jew started a world wide religion when he did NOT intend
to do so.
So I got to studying Christian history which led to studying Christianity that devolved into wondering about
contradictions in the scriptures and the meaning of the scriptures, eventually HOW they make meaning.
What does that ancient meaning have to do with today?
I know that is way more than you asked but I needed to lay a foundation. I began researching why there
are upwards of 40 K Christain denominations ALL reading essentially the same book.
So, being a former police detective I began searching and researching, questioning literally everything.
The last thing on earth I wanted to do was see that the J.W. might be right.
I mean who wants to be a J.W.??????? No Christmas, no Easter, no b-days, no voting, no shooting
anyone........huh?......and so on.
That said I'm about 99.9999% convinced that the J.W. organization is quite correct in the way the bible
should be understood. I researched the backgound of the Society and feel confident that the new
N.W.T. is probably about as correct a translation as one can get.
I do like the N.I.V. Study Bible quite a lot also.
There are more reasons to question accuracy in other translations than space here allows.
