It seems that a State will allow marriage (ie, consent) at 12?
Another at 13.......
One State allows marriage at 13 where a girl is pregnant, which does seem more sensible than leaving a lone young mother and an imprisoned male.
Our differing laws make one huge grey area.
I got laid when I was 13 by a woman in her twenties. I didn't want her to go to prison........ really I didn't......
Just because you're physically willing and able to have sex does not mean you're mentally mature enough to give concent.
I have always been upset with selective laws. Phil, in your opinion should a person be allowed to fight in combat but not drink a beer?
Our current laws are all messed up. A 60 year old man can legally have sex with an 18 year old girl but cannot drink a beer with her. What would be more appropriate for the two of them to do together if you had to choose one?

Varies from person to person. A few years after the begin of puberty. Some countries realise this and allow sexual contact between people of roughly the same age and then allow the gap to be bigger until the age of 18 when everything is a go.
Obviously this is out of the question for pedophiles as they are into people before puberty and children before puberty dont have sexual knowledge or even discovered their bodies.
Indeed. It's a big mess. That's why I said that you can't come up with hard and fast rules about this. It needs to be taken on a case by case basis.

In the UK an adult will go to prison if the age-of-consent is crossed (16yrs)..... and the age of puberty would only feature in a Judge's decision about length of sentence.
For an adult to be placed on the sexual-offender's register can be a terrifying experience, because people are allowed
discovery on what offender's live near their homes, etc....
If it was up to me, Rick, I'd make it legal for all members of the military to drink, except officers. Ok, even officers.
In a pedophile's romantic and sexual fantasies, they are not raping children. The children consent to it. So it is not a rape fantasy. It's only a rape fantasy when the person is specifically fantasizing about non-consensual sex. Otherwise, what a rape fantasy is becomes meaningless.

Paedophiles have sex with minors under the age of consent, even if they allow the sex act.
Where a paedophile rapes a minor then this is two serious crimes.

I don't think that is the case with all pedophiles and child molesters, and we can see that from what they say to children before, after, during the assault. They get off on having control over the child, of threatening them, hurting them, dominating them.
Those people are rapists, not pedophiles. Pedophiles don't get off on power differentials like rapists do. Pedophiles are romantically attracted to children and they don't want to hurt them. They tend to be rather child-like in certain ways, themselves.

A child can't give informed consent, and lacks the level of maturity and development to understand what is being done to them, so it is still a form of rape regardless. It still causes psychological damage even if it wasn't forceful or violent in nature.

A pedophile is someone who is sexually attracted to children. A pedophile is also a rapist if they act upon that attraction.

But they do hurt them, and hurting them doesn't stop them from continuing, they are still committing violence against the child's body.

Not all pedophiles have sex with children. A lot of them wouldn't even if it were legal.

No, according to the dictionary. A child can't consent to sex, and it psychologically harms a child. So, yeah, rape.
