Are women more likely to become parents than men?

I think they are not.
You cannot say that women are more likely to become parents, because lots of men dream of becoming fathers and won't marry a woman who wants to remain childless.
Besides, when I talk about vasectomy, men are so scared that they avoid dicussing about it.
I have met so few women of my age who want to become mothers.
For a woman maternity is out of fashion.

well...my friend Serena got married 5 years ago. She's my age.
She hasn't had any children yet. And maybe she never will; well...she's afraid of losing her silhouette. In fact she has a terrific body: tiny waist, large breast and a sexy bottom.
I can never image what she would look like if she became pregnant. She would lose all her sex appeal. I think that it is terribly humiliating for a woman to develop a uncool visible tummy; that's how men lose interest in their wives.

My husband is scared because 1/10 men have long lasting pain.

Don't you think that's quite superficial? If a man loses "interest" in a woman for that reason, he's a jerk. Not like men don't get old, hairy and have beer bellies. Maybe they should look in the mirror before being such an idiot. Sounds more like lust than love... It's the second time I see you confuse those two (first one being in the adultery thread).

Do you honestly think that those traits are the ONLY ones that make a woman look good?

I don't want children either but wow... That's the stupidest reason I've heard.

well...sometimes people are victims of stereotypes. In my country women look good only if they have a tiny waist. And men with hairy beer bellies are incredibly sexy.
I think that a woman is beautiful regardless of her body. But it's not my fault if men want perfection from their women.

Nope but that shows how messed up society is. A man can look as disgusting as he wants and still expect a woman to look like a model? I just don't like double standards.

I would never be with a man like that, personally, so I'm glad my husband isn't like that! :D

Yes...that does happen. That's Italia...dear.
by the way...my thread intends to find out if women are more likely to become parents than men.
Actually I am realizing that there are much more men dreaming of being fathers than in the past. Am I wrong?

I'm not sure, honestly. My husband doesn't want children either, but I have several uncles who were happy to have many children.

Did men not want children in the past? I thought they wanted to at least have a male heir. How far back are we talking?

However, I think maybe more women do not want them, because we have now more control on our lives and more freedom than before. It's still a bit taboo though, to not want children. I've had a few people in my family react badly and questioning my choice. It's as if women who don't want them are selfish and cold? Ugh, stereotypes is another thing I don't like.

The way having children works, it's pretty much the same odds. :D

Yeah, I'm incredibly perplexed by the question given this. Although I do remember hearing about some method somewhere of being able to fuse DNA from sperm together or eggs together to produce an embryo; I have no idea if this technology really exists yet, however.

precisely. Parenthood is a big responsibility and if you don't feel like having children, nobody has the right to force you.

My observation of our society is that it's materialistic and focused on superficial things that don't bring true happiness. So some people grow up thinking that a person is not worthy of their attention if they're not beautiful.

Women, in my opinion, are a lot more pressured to look "beautiful" while men have much less pressure. So they can get away not looking like when they were 20 but women are pressured to.

It's quite off topic though. I'd rather not discuss it further.

Considering what 4consideration pointed out, the number of fathers and mothers should be about the same. Things complicating the question include the unequal male-female birth ratio and life expectancy, adoptive parents, parenting among same-sex couples, and transgenderism.

An interesting case regarding inclination towards child-rearing is Japan, which has a very low birth-rate. Some of the reasons that have been given for this is male fear of the responsibilities of marriage, long working hours among both men and women, and women's disinclination to sacrifice professional aspirations for the sake of child-rearing.

well...a friend of mine found another explanation to the Japan low birth rate.
It is due to Japanese men's ugliness. Their looks is a constant turnoff for women.

Biologically, every time a woman becomes a parent, so does a man. However, the number of single women parents far outnumbers the number of single men parents, so as far as actual parenting goes, women are far more likely to actually be parents in terms of raising and caring for offspring.
