Are you in the path of the Eclipse? Are you going to see it?

I’m actually glad I left when I did. Traffic on the interstate was unusually heavy late this morning heading in the direction of the path.
I went out scouting this morning to see how things looked and came to the conclusion I am fine right where I am at. Requests that people stay off the roads during the eclipse may not be possible, because all the people that decided to hit the road like I was planning.

Not in path of totality, but at 97 percent.

We decided the headache of trying to drive 3-5 hours to find a good spot was not worth it...we can see really good shots online of totality. It was fun to experience it firsthand in 2017, but I don't have a big drive to do it again...unless it's really convenient...

I’m only about 35 miles from home.

I decided to leave well before the start of the eclipse to drive to the area I planned to observe, get my car washed, and grab a bite. I will likely be parked until it’s over and stop at the grocery before I jump back on the interstate.

No
And
No

But i hope those that do get the privilege of observing this quite rare sight have the experience they hope for.
I was in the path of another eclipse about 7 years ago. By chance, I ended up stuck out on a glade, because a huge number of people decided that was a good place to experience it. When I got to the glade, the parking lot was empty. When I was ready to leave, I was trapped there by hundreds of cars.

It turned out that I came to agree with all those other people. It was an excellent place to witness the eclipse. But not one for exiting easily when it was all over.

I'm just going to sit in the yard, drink some wine, relax and enjoy the experience quietly.

"Although Columbus is just outside the path of totality, the city will still get to see roughly 99% of the total eclipse. The moon will begin to pass over the sun at 1:55 p.m. in Columbus and the eclipse is expected to peak at 3:12 p.m. in the capitol city with the moon moving past the sun by 4:26 p.m."

We're having gorgeous summer-like weather, too. I'll go out in a few minutes to take a peek. Just got home from work.

I was looking at a larger map, so it appears that those from Europe could see it if they're willing to swim or sail out to the middle of the Atlantic.

I'm in the path, with 99.3% totality -- not too bad. Unfortunately, Toronto is mostly cloud covered today, with infrequent, sometimes inconvenient, breaks.

Still, I don't find myself all that interested, since what an eclipse is, how it works, is very clear to me. With a little remembering from long ago, I could probably do the math.

I sort of think that the great lure of a solar eclipse, besides the rarity, is somewhat akin to astrology, in that too many people perceive something mystical going on. I don't share any of those feelings.

I wish I was able to see it :(

8 or 10 years ago there was an eclipse a few weeks away from a Venus transit (maybe it was Mercury?).

I built a 10 foot long viewing tube and got to catch them both - awesome!

OTOH, we have just GOT to put an end to magical thinking like this:

from USA Today: "A solar eclipse is near. For some, it's evidence of higher power. For others, a warning"

The eclipse was really odd here.
It wasn't too cloudy to see!

SE MI had only a partial eclipse.
90% or so.
The sunlight just got increasingly
weaker, but it never got dark.
It had a strange effect on my tenants.
They stood outside looking at the sky.

This is so awesome! It really did get dark as night here. The street lights even came on. The birds didn't care, though. They've been excitedly chirping and singing all through it. It seems they're enjoying it as much as the humans are. It's actually gotten us to go outside!

The glasses really make a difference, too. To actually be able to see it as it happens is too cool. It's a nice moment to be able to see.

My dog didn't like it when it was at totality, though. She went back on the porch and only came back down when the light was coming back. Lol
