Are you okay with prostitution and porn and are you fine with your family practicing them?

Hello all.

This one is mainly for the female role in the practice.

By being fine with a family member practicing them, I mean your own feelings and approval. Please don't refer to it being their choice and that you don't have the right to decide for them. Family includes mothers, daughters, sisters and wives.

Please do not debate in this thread. If you have a different opinion or view than someone else's, please state them without quoting or giving references. If you want to debate, start a new thread for that in a debating section. Quoting is only allowed to ask for clarifications, and without commenting on the answers.

Prostitution is circunstantially if quite often involved with deception and marginality, so I suppose I disapprove of it in most actual situations.

But it does not have to be dangerous or dishonorable. Inherently, it is a very respectable activity. As is pornography. Certainly more so than a couple of supposedly honorable activities that I shall refrain from naming in this thread.

So I guess I will refrain from voting. Neither option is quite nuanced enough for my needs. I would really need to judge from a personal knowledge of the specific situation.

Truth be told, Smart Guy, I do not approve of even marriage between consenting adults _in general_. I need the specifics.

Family means acknowledging the specifics and reacting accordingly. So does actual justice (as contrasted to the rule of law).

Generic people do not marry, do not prostitute, do not produce pornography. And they do not have feelings nor need respect either. Because they do not exist.

Specific people are something else entirely.

If prostitution was legalized, heavily regulated and taxed - moving the "underground" dangerous aspects in to (what is hopefully) a safe, regulated arena - then I guess I wouldn't mind if a family member did it, presuming they genuinely enjoyed it and weren't doing it out of desperation.

One of my family members worked as a stripper. She used the money she earned from that and from a photo shoot she did for Penthouse magazine to buy a small import/export business which she built up and sold for a profit. I'm fine with all of that.

This is substantially my position too, except that I feel prostitution should require both certification following training, and membership in a union.

There are varieties of pornography. Not all involve actual intercourse, and not all that do are necessarily disrespectful towards the people involved.

I write write erotic lit that only caters to minority tastes. Most folks dislike it for reasons I won't mention. We must remember that porn isn't just films; it can be written or pictured in photographs etc. And are we including hentai in this? This is not a simple question.
