There is also the apparent hypocrisy of supporting abortion, and then saying you're going to back children in any meaningful way. I've always found that at least the "right" position on this made sense, help the kids, stop the abortions, etc. Anyway, this is one of the areas in leftists politics that are just beyond me... I lack the ability to ignore enough information to land "over there"... :D
A satanist who is pro-life? For some reason that shocks me! I figured Satan would want infants slain... but what do I know, I've been brainwashed by the Catholic Church?

Don't you think Satan would at least want babies to be sacrificed to him?

I describe myself as neither. I think both the right and left wings nowadays have so many blatant flaws that render identifying with them problematic—mainly, bigotry and lack of respect for science on the right, and excessive political correctness and unrealistic thinking on the left.

I'd rather live under a mostly leftist government if I had to choose, though, especially when it comes to social issues.

I have as yet failed to really understand what political correctness is supposed to be. It seems to vary. How do you describe it?

That's like Islam vs. Taliban.

The way I see it, being conscious not to offend other people. I think this endeavor is sometimes justified and sometimes isn't, hence my saying "excessive" rather than merely "political correctness."

I suppose I agree with that then.

I tend to think of it as trying not to be unnecessarily offensive and, in particular, being conscious of the meanings and implications of the things you say.

I would define that as reasonable political correctness, but we obviously see a lot of it that isn't nowadays. :D

Hmm, I suppose I'd likely find a lot of examples which you find unreasonable to be reasonable. Reckon you could give an example, real or imagined?

I'd love to provide a real example, but doing so here could well derail this thread. We can pursue this discussion in a new thread if you'd like. :)

Imagined example, for quick illustration:

Person X is a member of a minority group called Z. He/she says something clearly bigoted.

Person Y, being an advocate for the rights of group Z, believes that it is Z-phobic to point out X's bigotry or that many members of group Z also have bigoted views. As a result, Y calls criticism of the beliefs common in group Z "xenophobic," "racist," etc.

Does that help? :D

Oh yeah, that's a load of crap! I'm with you on that one.

Thanks!

Socially liberal, fiscally conservative (although I'm more flexible/pragmatic toward the latter).

Not really pro-life, just anti-stupidity. I think most human lives are equally worthless... :D

I find it strange to presume any apathetic god will have a concern of what happens in your uterus to say the least. I find the right is hypocritical in that they don't want abortions, BUT also don't want to pay for contraceptives which would alleviate any need for them. The liberals just go too far with it - to the point of being tasteless, crass, and insolent. It shouldn't be something we seek to do... I find the "rights" of a human to be defined at an arbitrary and irrational point as well, to me one single living celled organism is living and human. 1 sperm + 1 egg = human... Anything else just fails rationalization, so you see my problem?

My Satan isn't the spook from your Bible, it just happens to share the same name. :D

I like Milton Friedman.
He's more "up" than right or left.

So... Authoritarian?

Left of center.

Of course the goalposts seem to have moved very far right recently, so some Trump supporters might say different.

There must be a way to bring the two together and make both happy, no?
Yep - we've got that in the Disunited Queendom - they're called the Lib Dems and they both seem happy enough. They even had a crack at government once but that, as I recall, didn't turn out too well for them in the end.

Anyway, I voted left and I am always right.

My favourite communist wasn't really a communist (because they hadn't invented communism yet when he was one - if you see what I mean) but he was a radical deist (later, and much more famously, spiritualist), industrial and social reformer of the early 19th century - Robert Owen.
