Am I scientifically literate?

No I am not.

No science in college.
No science in high school.
No chemistry ever.

I took general science in eighth grade over 50 years ago.

I still got more right than wrong, 54%

Thank God there where some electrical questions.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.

You've got a point. I got 52% correct and the only college science class I ever took was Biology 101. In high school I took one chemistry class, drove my lab partner crazy, made the lowest C one can make, and got the hell out of dodge and wiped my memory bank clean the minute the final exam was over!

All that was over 30 years ago. I think you and I did OK on this!

Just looking at everyone elses scores, I feel pretty dumb. I guess the people who did real bad did not post.

I don't ever feel dumb. Sometimes I feel uninformed, sometimes I feel embarrassed, and sometimes I feel humiliated -but not dumb!

Know why? Cuz I AIN'T dumb!)(

InformedIgnorance

Do you 'know' or believe?
I got a 40

Mind you about five of those were lucky guesses... and the quiz seems to give a lot of non-scientific hints for those who are more religiously minded...

Ignorance is noble....especially when one is aware of one's own.
You'd be amazed how little I know.

Well, maybe not.

Having not studied most of this stuff since middle school, I got 26 right and 24 wrong :D

I found this one funny:

33. What word, which comes from Ancient Greek words meaning "entire" and "Earth," describes a supercontinent thought to have existed during the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras, about 250 million years ago?

Gaia

Eurasia

Pangaea

America

There you go, Amurrca is the "entire earth" :D (Note that I did answer this one correctly with "Pangaea")

The easier ones for me were the linguistic ones, interestingly.

I did! Because of this book: Bully for Brontosaurus, by Stephen Jay Gould. I love that man, and highly recommend all of his reflections on natural history.

As for me:
You answered 33 of 50 questions correctly for a total score of 66%.

Yes, a bit embarrassing. But I really don't remember my physics.

I almost failed physics. I am terrible at remembering things. Names, faces, capital cities, atomic numbers, etc. For some reason I have no problem remembering several thousand fiddle tunes and the lyrics to hundreds of songs. Not the names of them though. lol. I guess I'm a specialist.

Hey, don't bust my bubble! I'm feeling pretty good about that 52%!

So far, I think I am still the winner when it comes to the lowest score.

Great, now I can't even win at being the most scientifically ignorant. Way to steal my thunder!

I find that quite impressive. In general, I don't remember anything that well. So, I'm basically mediocre at everything. :p

It's stupid though, really. The musicians I play with often express surprise at how many tunes I can roll off and how quickly I can learn them (if you play a normal jig in a standard key three times at a moderate pace, I will have it forever), but even after two years I don't know the names of the tunes I play with my band. EVERY WEEK, for TWO YEARS, when somebody says "let's play the Crosses of Annagh set", I have to ask "Which one is that, then? What instrument do I play" and they have to hum the first bar for me.
