All three scriptures where it say he comes like a thief use the word hos Strong's 5613 hós: as, like as, even as, when, since, as long as
Strong's Greek: 5613. ?? (hós) -- as, like as, even as, when, since, as long as

He comes "as" a thief
He comes "like as" a thief
He comes "even as" a thief
He comes "when" a thief
He comes "since" a thief
He comes "as long as" a thief

He comes "however" a thief
He comes "anmely" a thief
He comes "same way" a thief
He comes "since" a thief
He comes "though" a thief
He comes "where" a thief
He comes "while" a thief
He comes "whenever" a thief
He comes "so" a thief" He comes "just" a thief

So here's back at you..... Why isn't a lion called a thief and a thief a lion? Why?

I meant literally AS a thief, but I see your dilemma. That is clever, but I really don't think it means Jesus is a thief.

You didn't read the posts. Did you? He isn't the thief. If Jesus is his words (I believe it!) and his words are CHANGED then he comes without his words that he really spoke. You don't have them. I have them.

Humankind's Bible is the thief. Jesus isn't a thief. Right!

God let it happen because..............it distinquishes the true ones from the false ones.

You cant explain it any more better, if someone wants to nitpick it, oh well.
I say let this one go, we all know what the metaphor means, even a child would understand when it's explained.
If people wish to ignore everything, just so they can what if this and that, so be it.

There aren't any. BUT the prophesy is fulfilled "there was no one righteous, no not one". Romans 3:10

OK. Thank you. It doesn't really matter what Jesus Christ God's Son and the holy reflection of The Almighty YHVH really said. Nice opinion but I must disagree.

You say I am nikpicking. Coming as a thief means stealthily and nothing more. But I say it does not match what else he said "I am standing at the door knocking". What does standing at the door knocking mean? It is not like a thief. Does he come in twos?

I see most people going with the status quo, which might seem to be the wisest route, but it is the one the Pharisees took.

There are times where you are in the dark, or in ignorance, and the truth comes. Other times, you are able to see the truth being revealed, or as it knocks, simply because you are using active awareness.

I see what you're saying though.

The question is this. Jesus comes like a thief according to you. But he is also standing at the door knocking. Coming like a thief and standing outside knocking are opposites. Is Jesus confused or does he just want us to be confused?

Also it is so confusing that he says he comes sudden and unexpected but knocks first that I wonder if he really is for confusion.

The Lord God confused the language of Babel. But then the angel says "get out" of Babylon the Great. I think the angel means stop being confused and confusing. So which one should I believe about Jesus? Does he come unexpected like a thief or is he outside knocking waiting for the door to open?

If he comes both unexpected AND knocking then I suppose we can expect TWO Jesuses coming. Also so many people expect his return can it really be said honestly he comes "unexpected"?

At this point I think even the most commited atheist wishes he WOULD show up and wouldn't be much surprised if he did!

OP is wrong.

Jesus was not a thief; why should he come like a thief?
Jesus never said he would come like a thief.

Please quote from Jesus.

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.

1 Thessalonians 5:2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

Luke 17

And having been questioned by the Pharisees, when the reign of God doth come, he answered them, and said, `The reign of God doth not come with observation; nor shall they say, Lo, here; or lo, there; for lo, the reign of God is within you.' And he said unto his disciples, `Days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and ye shall not behold [it]; and they shall say to you, Lo, here; or lo, there; ye may not go away, nor follow; for as the lightning that is lightening out of the one [part] under heaven, to the other part under heaven doth shine, so shall be also the Son of Man in his day; and first it behoveth him to suffer many things, and to be rejected by this generation.
