Ask a Catholic

you wrote..
Then you wrote this. Which, seems to be contradicting what you stated earlier.
So, who founded the Catholic church?
Are you saying that the church that Jesus founded, was the Catholic church?
Who is the rock, on which the ''church'' (we don't know what your talking about when you say that at this point), was built?
I agree with you.
Jesus built no church and named no denomination with the name Catholicism.

Catholicism just meant "universal" when it was initially used to describe the Christian Church in its entirety.
So, neither Jesus founded any religion and named it "Christianity" nor he erected any " Church" nor he founded any denomination called "Catholicism". Then where all of them have come to surface?
Anybody, please

This link will explain how Christ founded the Church:

This excerpt will explain how the Catholic Church is that Church:

The early Church was structured in a hierarchical manner as it is today. We see in Acts, chapter 15 how the apostles and the elders came together under the leadership of St. Peter to decide the question of what was required of Gentiles. We also see how St. Peter was regarded as the head of the Church when St. Paul, "Went up to Jerusalem to confer with Kephas [Peter] and remained with him fifteen days." (Galatians 1:18) There is no Scriptural evidence of independent local churches.

The Catholic Church is the only church that can claim to have been founded by Christ personally. Every other church traces its lineage back to a mere human person such as Martin Luther or John Wesley. The Catholic Church can trace its lineage back to Jesus Christ who appointed St. Peter as the first pope. This line of popes has continued unbroken for almost 2,000 years.

God rules, instructs and sanctifies His people through His Church. Under her teaching office, the Catholic Church preserves the Word of God. She is the custodian, keeper, dispenser and interpreter of teachings of Christ. And she accomplishes this under the protection of the Holy Spirit.

This says that st. Peter founded the church.

The early church was called "Christianos", but that appears to have a title used by some outside the church itself, and the term may have derogatory. "Catholic" was a descriptive term as L mentioned above, and both words were being used in reference to the church by the end of the 2nd century.

Well, let's see.

1. Jesus said to Peter that he was the rock on which he would build his church. So Jesus did say he was building a church.

2. The church that emerged was the Catholic Church. There was no other universal church prior to that so hence, the name, Catholic Church.

3. End of story.

We have already been through this in this thread but I will summarize:

Jesus gave the authority to Peter which founded the Church.

"And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it"
But, Jesus didn't end up building the church, Peter did. Sure, maybe Jesus claimed he would, but in actuality, it was Peter who founded it, right?

Well, of course we believe that Jesus worked through Peter through the Holy Spirit to build it and you obviously don't so we run into a little disagreement here.

No, I believe that. But, I certainly don't think that means that Jesus founded the church. Peter did in Jesus' name.
