My question, unrelated: I have noticed that it's generally accepted for non-adherents to answer questions in underpopulated DIRs. For example, non-Jains might answer questions in the Jainism DIR, because we don't have any Jains here.
To what extent is this enshrined as policy anywhere, and to what extent is it an informal policy borne from practicality?
Before the software transition, most underpopulated DIRs were green, allowing for non-members both to make respectful questions and respectful posts. The relative lack of traffic also meant that no one complained about posts from outsiders, so we let them be.
We generally take into account members' reactions to any given post in a DIR: if they react positively to it, we don't moderate it as strictly as one that inspired negative feedback from DIR members. For example, a post from an outsider in the Judaism DIR accurately answering a question about an aspect of Judaism is generally treated differently from a post telling Jews that they must accept Jesus or Allah as their god and savior. The strictness of moderation tends to vary with the reaction of members to any given post in DIRs. That and the fact that most underpopulated DIRs were green before the software transition are the main reasons respectful posts from outsiders in underpopulated DIRs are not as strictly moderated as those in other DIRs.
It is not a formal policy as of now, since there are no green DIRs anymore; the new software colored all DIRs blue. It is, however, recognized protocol that we usually follow when we moderate DIRs.
If one of the RF administrators can run for U.S. president, sure, we can allow Bernie Sanders to run for RF administrator. Fair is fair.

You can start a thread in the Site Feedback forum and ask the staff to do that for you. It is a rather simple process, so it shouldn't take much time.

Hello moderating team. Could I please ask you to delete my latest thread titled...'children should not be forced into any religion'....as I have a feeling it may cause quite a circus. What do you think?..
There are to ways to achieve that:
1- Report the first post of that thread with the report feature under your avatar.
2- Start a thread in the Site Feedback (it's a link, click on it) with a link to that thread. This choice is good if you want to give extended explanation.

Sorry I didn't do it on the fly as you talked about it. Moderation decisions are made with consensus of at least three staff members.
