Atheism Plus

This person, not "these people". I think it's unwise for you to generalize about all of Atheism+ from the attitude of one blogger. Most of the other things I've read about Atheism+ have gone to great lengths to say that their movement isn't for everyone, that they're not trying to re-brand all atheism, but trying to carve out a niche for some, but not all, atheists.

One analogy I heard from a proponent of Atheism+ was with a group called Atheists Helping the Homeless. AHH has been around for a number of years and has generally gotten a very positive reception. Even though they're doing good in the "name" of atheism, nobody complains that they're making all the atheists who don't participate with them look bad.

I think you're reading way too much into an article from one overzealous blogger.

If you're serious about learning what this movement is about, a good place to start would be AtheismPlus.com. From their FAQ:

FAQ | Atheism Plus

I don't think that the name is a matter of miscommunication, dishonesty or carelessness. I think it fits just fine. I'm really not sure why you would say it doesn't.
Sorry for the late response. I was enjoying a holiday in Barcelona with no net involved.

According to my source (which I intended to back up but ran out of time, so take my facts with a grain of salt for now) the blogger in question is one of the founders of Atheism Plus. As it says in the FAQ they seem to want to distance themselves from this and if they're able to do it, good for them. That still leaves me disagreeing that a term like that is really necessary. From the way I look it the movement is more about social justice and less about a lack of belief in god(s). Therefore a more appropriate (yet still silly) name would be Secular Humanism Plus. However what we're talking about already equals Secular Humanism to such an extent that the Plus becomes redundant. With pre-existing terms like this, I think it's silly and pretty careless to come up with a new one that's likely to cause confusion. The discussion between certain theist groups and atheists is complicated enough as it is, especially because people associate so many additional (mainly political) ideas with atheism.

I'll try to come back to this later, when I've had time to look up sources and perhaps some commentaries.
