Sometimes I can't help but feel that I have not been invited to even learn where the true inner circle atheist initiation ceremonies are held.

It hurts.

Your views are far too humanistic to be considered true atheism. If you wish admission to the inner circle give up your pathetic concerns for the human race, demonstrate your fidelity by sacrificing a cat on a hibachi. Then we'll talk.

If you say so. But that is pretty much an archetype of oddity.

Honest question: do people actually think atheism exists except as a refusal to submit to the insistence of theists?

Argh! And now I am not true breed enough to belong either!

Will the discrimination never cease? I will cry a river.

May we settle for me biting a dog? I'm sure I can find a soy meat hot dog somewhere. I will produce two eyewitnesses.

Naw, it doesn't hurt THAT much. Biting the head off the chicken is a little icky, and obviously painting your face with it's blood brings a small risk of disease, but once you get past that, there's really only the sacrifices to go, and if you bring your own baby, it's really pretty...umm...simple...

You meant it hurt EMOTIONALLY to not be invited, right?
*winces*
Yeah, now I understand. Ummm...I wasn't invited either. Nope, not me. Don't even know what goes on. In fact, I suspect the initiation ceremonies are just a made up rumour. Besides, you're not missing that much. Catering has dropped off in the last year.

I like the phrase "archetype of oddity"

The vast majority of theists I know just go about their business and never or very seldom mention what they believe in except in the company of similar believers. Those that use their belief as a club are a small minority. But yes, atheism is not dependent on people insisting that God exists. But I have noticed that insisting on something tends to evoke an emotional reaction where some people insist on the opposite. It's the emotional equivalent of the second law of thermodynamics.
