Atheists: What if?

Answering as an agnostic - No, I welcome discovery and acquisition of knowledge. Now let's place the shoe on the other foot; What if you witnessed undeniable proof that there was no god. Or that there was a god, but almost everything that your religion claimed about god's will and nature turned out to be wildly incorrect? Would you hide it?

I would not. If fact I have said openly The God I worship might not be real.

At least you are honest. I believe anyone who believes anything with 100% certainty is probably either lying or is a bit closed minded. I admit that I am not 100% certain that deity exists either.

I can think of only one proof. But I think anyone's perceived proof including mine too is personal.

One day you enter a trance state. In it you see what your day will be another day. When the day comes everything that happened to you in the trance state of that day happens just like in the trance. Is it God? I think you would hide the happening. Why do I think so? It is not proof to anyone else. It is for You.

Looks a lot like a simple scenario of an atheist becoming a theist and for whatever reason deciding to make a secret out of it.

Could happen, I suppose, and I guess it does. But I wouldn't call it "hiding proof". Such strictly personal evidence is ill suited for proof, and not worth the trouble of actively hiding even if due to some derangement one wants to hide it.

I don't see what that would have to do with proof of the existence of any god. I'm not even aware of anything that suggests any particular god might cause such a thing to happen.

I probably would talk to people about this kind of experience (certainly if it happened more than once), not as proof for a god but to get help working out what did cause it (and decide on my superhero name  ).

An atheist would never accept any type of proof of God's existence..:)

An atheist falls over a cliff at night and grabs a tree halfway down and begins calling for help.
A beautiful golden glow lights up the whole scene and choirs of sweetly-singing angels float around.
Then a mighty voice booms out from above- "Take my hand and I will save thee my son!"
"Who are you?" asks the atheist.
"I am the Lord Almighty" replies the voice, "the Alpha and the Omega, Lord of all Creation!"
"HELP HELP" yells the atheist, "IS THERE ANYBODY ELSE UP THERE??"

Well I can't speak for the nonbeliever.....and I have no religion.....

But I would hide it.

Even though the Carpenter did say.....
No one lights a candle, then to hide it beneath a bushel basket.

Having such proof would make me a target.
Look what such proof did to the Carpenter.

Having such proof, no door would secure my home.
Having such proof, I dare not go out.

It would be better to post such things as cryptic poems....under a pen name....

I'd hide it.
Why, you ask?
Because such a major & fundamental change in Weltanschauung could be due to
my insanity or other incompetence. I've been wrong before. (Yes, really!) And
I could be wrong again. I also think of the common sci fi theme of powerful
aliens being mistaken for gods, & even pretending to be them for material gain.
So it would take some time to mull it over, & gain some confidence that what I
see is what actually is.

If I had incontrovertible evidence for the existence of the Christian God I would go straight to the UN. I assume they would do everything in their power to take him into custody and charge him with innumerable crimes such as incitement to murder, genocide, infanticide, war crimes and any number of other charges based on his autobiography.

Sometimes people ask BAD questions to look for GOOD answers. Haha I'm going to look see if you ever frubaled me. My guess is not. But I've been wrong a few times.
Some people are easily offended.
But I thought it a fine question.
I had to consider it a while before answering.

I fake a mistake now and then so no one thinks I'm God.
It reminds me of the old Persian rug tradition I've heard of...to always make a flaw.
It also reminds me of a joke about the Pope being accused of perfection...but that
one is for another day.
