Athiests at a religious forum

So, I've been seeing a lot of threads started by atheists that essentially assert that atheism is right and everyone else is wrong.
Not by this atheist.

So, atheists, why do you come to a forum full of religious people that you're not going to convince to give up their belief in God(s) or whatever they believe in? Are you here to learn about theistic beliefs, or are you just here to proselytize your atheism and tell theists that they're stupid?
Speaking for myself, I just like to argue. :D

Really? I've not seen very many threads like that. There are a lot of challenges to specific aspects of some religious beliefs but I'm not convinced that's the same thing. I certainly don't see any more of atheists asserting they're right and everyone else is wrong than I do of theists saying the same thing.

There are some atheists like that but I'm not claiming lack of belief in gods is any protection from stupidity.

I found these boards looking for somewhere to discuss religion because it is one of the most influential factors in human society yet one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented (by proponents and opponents).

I'm not here to proselytise atheism because I think that's impossible. I don't think anyone can choose to change their beliefs. What people can change is how they act upon those beliefs and that is what I try to get people (atheists, theists and those who aren't sure) to think about. If anything, I guess I could be said to be proselytising agnosticism. I'm not trying very hard though. I'm more interested in what people do rather than what they think.
Well said.

Though the fact that threads like AuroraWillow's show up at least three times a year is an indicator that it's a valid perception. Many atheists come here heavy-handed, sure that tearing down myths will right the world --and while it may, the flip side of throwing Baby out with bathwater is supporting literalized myths as something valid that requires tearing down.

People complain all the time, about everything and anything. That does not prove anything, Willamena.

The myths again? Almost makes me think you are trying to proselytize that view of yours.

It is only natural for a person to be in support of their own opinions and ideas, and argue in favor of them.

By the way, I believe it should be " the literalization of myths".

That's okay. I don't believe in "proof" in that context. :)

You can lateralize to your heart's content, you'll get no complaints about that from me. :D

:D Now that's funny.

The English language is fun; not only does it have intricate syntax, but the spelling needs careful care as well. I didn't even know the word lateralization existed until just now and it is only one letter off from literalization.

It's a fun language though, each post is like construction work and one of the main reasons I still post on forums like these. For daily practice.

I had to look it up, too. :)

And, your point is taken.

For you, I'd even wear the mask and a patented Stephen Colbert tuxedo. As a matter of fact, that's what I'm planning for halloween.

I thought you were still mad at me though? Am I forgiven now?

Of course, I can never stay mad at you! Plus do you think it's coincidence that we're talking again after you put up the Colbert avatar again...? I think not.

I think you clicked the wrong button. Clearly you meant to express your undying love for me, but that post makes it look like it's directed at Eliot Wild. :sarcastic

Hmmm... find an avatar of kitty Colbert and we'll talk. Don't tell Eliot.
