It matters as follows. President Biden is very much coupled with Hunter Biden's financial and political dealings. Hunter's dealings can possibly be exposed due to Hunter's paternity suit. If President Biden publicly embraces Navy (the grand daughter's name) he makes Hunter and his exposure greater. That is, he can't simultaneously easily welcome Navy and downplay the paternity issues.

I don’t mean to be rude here but…
Why does your (meaning US) politics sound like an episode of a generic soap opera?

So he doesn’t welcome Navy into the family. She gets to reap the potential benefits (or drawbacks as the case may be) from sharing his last name publicly. Win win as I see it.

Or he could just pull a “fake news” meme lol

I’m sorry I just don’t see what the big deal is. Biden was the “anyone but Trump” option, as is my understanding. I just don’t see how folks should or would care that much either way. Unless they’re beyond bored and in need of mindless gossip/tabloid like “scandal” I suppose.

The moral character of politicians is a topic of interest to the body politic. If the morals of your leaders don't interest you nor matter to you that is your choice. But most people do want their leaders to be of high standards. That doesn't make it gossip.

Did he turn his life around? Wouldn't that be something to be proud of.

Anyway I'm not perfect so I try not to judge others especially of those who I know nothing of their circumstances.

And those whose circumstances were originally brought up by Trump as statements of the other side during his first impeachment trial in which he denied funding to Ukraine and was impeached by the House, but not convicted by the Senate due to not having the two-thirds vote necessary in the Senate thank to Mitch McConnell, the Majority Senate Leader at the time, and to an extent, the GOP.

President Biden said he was proud of Hunter at the time he was doing those things, even though he knew it and covered for Hunter.

It appears his pride was well placed if his son has reformed. Maybe that was the catalyst for change.

Whilst I guess that’s true in America (I assume) it’s still looking like inane gossip either way.
It’s his private family affairs, that’s his business.

Besides Joe is still looking better than his predecessor in comparison. Since he isn’t the one with paternity questions going through the courts right now. It’s his son. Kids are not their parents and he could probably even spin that to look sympathetic if he tried.
