Oh no, don't ask me to classify music. :biglaugh: I can't do that for the life of me. VNV Nation is... kind of technoish, I think. It's got synths and interesting vocals. Krishna Das does Hindu and Buddhist chanting and has a lovely voice. Kaizers Orchestra is... different. They're Norwegian and I think would be classified as rock. Skyclad does rock music with violins, which isn't as distasteful as it sounds. E Nomine has angry German vocals paired with high-pitched Latin choruses, which I adore.

1. Synergy (Larry Fast) (early syth)
2. Frontline Assembly (industrial)
3. Econoline Crush (alternative/industrial)
4. Phillip Glass (impressionist)
5. Kate Bush (great singer, not well known (i think), a 5 octave range)

and everyone must go buy something by Mike Oldfied. He is the greatest. Might I suggest "Ommadawn" for starters.

You guys are making me feel out of touch. I was expecting to know all the bands you listed. I know none@! Gah!

Aqualung

Echo and the Bunnymen is probably the only group that I know that is lesser known. All the rest are fairly mainstream (though 80s) groups that most people (from the 80s) would know.

The one "major" band that I like that no one I ever talked to has heard of is "Sentenced." They're a metal band from Finland. Everyone that I make listen to them ends up loving them, too. Very good band, but they are no longer - they released their last CD "The Funeral Album" this year. There are some other bands, but none really worth mentioning.

http://www.mcchris.com/
5)Dream Theater (a major progressive rock group... most of you have heard them though you may have neaver heard of them... they are frickin' awesome!!)

I could go on and on... I LOVE music, all kinds of music. I have over 400 cd's and it isn't enough. :jiggy:
Lately I've been getting into more and more local and small bands. Many of them while growing in popularity are concsiously avoiding the major music industry. I could literally list hundreds of bands and garentee that you havent heard of at least 40% of them. :D
