Meshuggah - a really difficult listen. Their riffs are kind of mechanical and vocals that are slightly harsher than the Nu Metal roar but not quite Death. Incredibly progressive though with long songs with such weird twists and turns that they are one of the most interesting bands to listen to. I would suggest their EP "I" which has one track of 20 minutes.
Crowbar - Doom metal with faster thrash bits.
Lamb Of God - Okay not that unheard of but they are so amazing. Highpoint has to be the drum solo in Ruin
The Locust - Noisecore. Short, fast (and I don't mean fast in the conventional sense) and amazing live but difficult to listen to casually. Still with albums of 30+ tracks, I'm not complaining .
A Perfect Circle - I don't know what these guys are. They remind me of Tiamat in places but are a little bit lighter so I guess they are kind of Gothic Metal but not really lol.
Raised Fist - The punk side of hardcore. Very unique voice and the catchy (for hardcore) tracks keep it from going stale to quickly.
Oops I listed 6 lol. Oh well.
In Flames is amazing but I wouldn't exactly call it unheard of being at the forefront of its field with the possible exception of Soilwork . Master Virgil, Liquid Tension Experiment rocks so so much! I was just listening to them .
Lol I like the description of Nightwish as "beautiful metal" . It does suit it well.
hooray for music! I'm currently in the process of putting it all into MP3 CDs but I don't think I have enough CDs lol!!!
