We have no proof?! He was in Yemen with known enemies of the US, and there are videos of his hate speech against us. You have to be seriously delusional to believe the man wasn't a traitor.
But you believed a specific charge that was made by the Justice department against Awlaki, namely that he "took up arms" against the US and you have no evidence or proof for that. Making hate speech against the US is not a crime punishable by an extra-judicial execution as far as I'm aware. People make hate-speech all the time in the US, in fact if I'm not mistaken, it is covered by the first amendment.

It's almost impossible. Not totally impossible but as it stands today, it is extremely improbable that such a thing could occur. I suggest you take a look at the checks and balances in places: Separation of powers under the United States Constitution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm aware of how our government works... But it only continues to work that way because the people in charge believe it should. Writing something down and calling it law means absolutely nothing if nobody's willing to follow it.

Making hate speech against the US while surrounded by enemies of the state, and counting yourself in as one of them, is a good enough reason for me. Should we have waited for him to carry out an attack?

When you say "people in charge", if you're talking about the Obama admin then you are wrong. The whole point of the checks and balances is to stop the current admin from transgressing the bounds, that means it is irrelevant whether or not they believe in the system of separation of powers.

But again, it might be a good enough reason for I.S.L.A.M617, but that's not the question is it? The question is, is it good enough for the constitution? I don't think so. I personally don't see anything wrong with killing a person who is clearly waging war on their own country, provided the govt publishes the evidences.

When I say the "people in charge" I mean EVERYBODY that's in charge; I'm not just talking about the executive branch. If I meant the executive branch, I would have said the executive branch. You would just rather assume I'm ignorant.

Eh...no. This all goes back to your claim that the "government" shouldn't be criticized because they are the giver of rights in response to a person who criticized the Obama admin's policies. Moreover, you also said that admin's control over the military is somehow a threat to the separation of powers. It's quite clear you're arguing that Obama has powers he simply doesn't have, at least not currently.

Go for it; I doubt you'll find a better situation anywhere else though.
True no where is perfect, but people also aren't shot in industrial and post/industrial nations like they are here. People also tend not to look at you like you might be the boogy-man because you are going into a science-related field, and don't think you're the devil when you acknowledge you don't believe in god.
I also want to be gone before a real dictator steps in and makes it illegal and difficult to leave. It may not come to that, but America is frighteningly ripe for the taking.

First of all, the comment I responded to didn't even mention Obama; they were condemning the US in general...
Second, while the president doesn't have the power on paper, obviously the person with the most guns can kill anyone who opposes them if they really want to. You act like the Constitution builds a magical force field around the branches of government that makes them bulletproof because we have a system of checks and balances... Your whole argument depends entirely on the assumption that people are physically forced to follow rules. If Obama was really the power-hungry animal all these stupid conspiracy theorists try to make him out to be, he would have staged a military coup a long time ago. Instead, he decides to fulfill his role in the government and stay within the bounds of Constitutional law.

Like where? The UK? Canada? Australia? India? China? All of those countries have higher violent crime rates than the US does, regardless of how many people get shot. I'm sure you're in fear of attack every day here ...

God forbid idiots have a bad opinion of you... That's a great reason to leave the country that gives you the best opportunity for self-advancement.

Conspiracy theory is definitely the cherry on top of this whole statement.

Don't leave! We have looked ripe for the taking more than once over the decades, and everything worked out. Not only that, I don't think that you should leave us. We're your peeps. Its like...aw don't do that.

You know nobody's forcing you to live here though, right?

That's not always financially viable, or possible because of familial obligations.

'Sides, I understand that Canada is not as accepting of American immigrants these days. My only other prospective countries (all of them Scandinavian) have a language barrier.

Actually Japan looks pretty good. And once I finally get to go there, if I like it there I might just stay.

You apparently don't know what it's like to have things that others should have no problem with be used as an accusation against you, such as being a non-believer. It's not a very common thing, but it's still frustrating that people who had no problem with you before now think you want to steal their soul because they just found out you don't believe in god. It's also far from the only problem with people here. Ever noticed how arrogant, self-centered, self-absorbed, and ethnocentric people here are?
Conspiracy theory is definitely the cherry on top of this whole statement.
It's not a conspiracy, but a potential threat. With all the monitoring, lists, and now definite spying, a military coup could be accomplished literally over-night with great effecency.

Since I'm going to be an anthropologist, I think I might just make the world my home.

Trust me, I'm more than familiar with being judged for non-belief. It's more common than you may think. I don't care enough that it makes me want to leave the country; I actually think it's pretty funny. And if you think people won't be ethnocentric and self-absorbed anywhere else you go, you'll be in for a surprise. See how many times you hear the word "gaijin" in Japan. People are always going to be judgmental, and believe it or not, you're never gonna find a place where everybody loves you. Sounds like you just need to grow a thicker skin.

It's not a conspiracy, but a potential threat. With all the monitoring, lists, and now definite spying, a military coup could be accomplished literally over-night with great effecency.
And would have been a long time ago if it was going to happen.

Sorry, been gone too long and must catch up to my own thread! I give a talk about this tomorrow in my American Political Process class at University.... I saw one comment on "why don't you just leave?"... Allow me to respond by saying that part of my blood was here LONG, LONG AGO! Another part was here in the early 1600's... I needn't go further! We (as Americans) have shed our sweat, blood, tears, and lives to have our freedoms! WE WILL NOT GO, IT IS OURS! Anyhow, I digress... I plan on closing my talk with the following:

If you stand for one Amendment and don't care about the others, WE lose them ALL. United WE stand, divided WE fall.... One by One till they are all gone, like sheep herd to the slaughter. I shall stand for ALL OUR RIGHTS, I shall STAND UP! If I stand alone I too shall scream, "Give me LIBERTY or give me death!"

:clap

And rest assured, that those of us who may scream more quietly and subtly still scream nonetheless.
