LOL yeah.

Is it just me or has Hinduism and Buddhism for that matter become this new agey "cool" thing to do?

What you said. There is a tv commercial I find to be stupid, annoying and verging on down right offensive. I forgot what it is advertising, but a woman in spandex dashes out of a yoga studios with a blurted out "namaste". As if that were not bad enough, in this yoga studio is a very large statue of Nataraja. Though it may be unintentional, I think it makes a mockery of a living religion. It underscores the ignorance of people who see Hinduism and Buddhism as trendy, New Age-y and exotic.

In one of my Child Development Class my professor(FYI I love this lady she is wonderful and great at her job) used to try and calm down students who were stressing out by going up to them and saying "Namaste". I didn't have the heart to tell her what she was really saying. To me everytime she said it I was thinking this "You look stressed maybe if I say salutation to your soul it will help!"

It reminds me of the time I saw a young sales assistant in one of the mall stores, the New Age-y one I frequent to get incense, statues and some of my doo-dads. I saw she had a tattoo on the back of her neck written in devanagari. I was perplexed because it was written rotated 90*, as if you took my signature and rotated it vertically. I asked her what it was, not knowing how to read devanagari. She said "oh I don't know, it has something to do with The Beatles".

I'm a beginner. I can't read Devanagari, recognise half the Gods, or name any asanas. I'm a lousy singer, haven't read much scripture, or ever think about tattoos.

But I guess everyone has to start somewhere.

It's all fine to be a beginner. As soon as we start comparing ourselves to others, it puts on another barrier. Either considering ourselves to be 'superior' or 'inferior' is an unnecessary practice which won't lead anywhere. Just who is to say anyway?

There are sparks of divinity within all. That's about all you can say. Imagine the most idiotic fool you have ever met ... well, at some point in your evolution back to God you were just like that. Then imagine the most enlightened saintly person you have ever met ... well, at some point in your evolution, you will also be just like that.

So the whole sense of 'people being stupid' when looked at from the higher level makes no sense. Of course it isn't easy to do that at all times, but we can at least try.

If a Guru who can see (and read) auras came by and saw you and me, it may very well be you who has the clearer aura, and not me.

Good point thanks for that. It is so funny I just made a thread that hits on these points exactly lol.
