Benefits of cow urine for Hindus

I do not need peer reviewed scientific research to practice Hinduism, to get their peer scientific research to prove if Murti worship works or is real, nor if Hanuman existed. I am not telling anyone they have to practice something, or believe in Murtis or Ayurvedic medicine or anything of Vedic culture, I just want to reveal it to others, Ayurvedic medicine is valid to me, even if some new to Hinduism have more faith in the peer review of scientists.

Well, I do know the product I buy, the proceeds all go to cow seva, that is goshalas which are safe havens for cows. Very little of the product is used to make these pills, it doesn´t take a lot of cow urine to make thousands of pills. The base also contains some other ayurved herbs to form a paste.

ratikala

Istha gosthi
namaskaram

my only reservation would be in taking such products from animals that are not reared in the taditional way , as in not from a Hindu Goshala , ....it worries me greatly that Cows here are fed a diet adulterated with chemicals and antibiutics and not allowed themselves to live a healthy lifestyle .

but this product which comes from a Goshala and whis profits return to the Goshala this seems to be Auryavedic medicine at its best , ...for health not for profit ...

jai jai Shiva fan please continue to give us your thoughts .

applying cow urine externally doesn't sound too difficult, drinking or ingesting it must require quite some will-power or perhaps desperation

personally, I'm open to the possibility that applying it externally or ingesting it might be of some benefit, it is said by some that all diseases have a spiritual cause and maybe this is how cow urine is beneficial - because of it's supposed spiritual properties, specifically it's ability to repel spiritual negativity
I have heard of the practice of sprinkling cow urine to sanctify a place, get rid of ghosts etc.

Cow urine or any urine from a healthy animal is sterile. So yes I guess germs don´t thrive in it. The kidneys sterilizes the liquid that the body isn´t using. I´m not sure what a sterile pill would do for you, if it is still sterile once it becomes pill form that is, probably not.
It would be more beneficial to ingest a very small amount of feces. Not that I would recommend it, but like Maduri said, doctors do recommend it in controlled forms, often our colon and small intestine is stripped of healthy bacteria due to clean living, clean food and antibiotics.

Let's think about this for a second. Anything the cow eats or drinks will pass through it's digestive tract, the waste products of which end up either as urine or feces, right?

So, the contents of the urine is either : Stuff the cow's body doesn't need, OR stuff the cow's body thinks is toxic - hence the need to remove it.

So...assuming the things you are benefiting from come from the excess, non-toxic stuff the cow is getting rid of, wouldn't you be better off just eating/ drinking whatever the cow is eating or drinking, rather then suffering through ingesting urine?

I'm not trying to be argumentative, I'm just trying to make it easier on those who are thinking of trying this out.

What do cows eat? vegetation (ideally)
What do they drink? water (ideally)

So just eat the grass and drink water.

No there is no stuff in the urine, the kidneys sterilizes it, that is what they do. If you suddenly have bacteria in the urine that is how the doctor can tell if you have a urinary infection or not.
In the olden days people used to pee on their hands if they got a cut, probably didn´t kill any germs with it, but it was at least sterile.

The liver cleanses the body from toxins too, feces is actually just old undigested food. It smell bad because it has been decomposing slowly in your intestinal tract.

But, yes definitely eating what the cow eats and drinking water is a better option.

Think a little more carefully, Fireside. All discovery comes from observation, sometimes of eons of observation.

Penicillin is one of the great "discoveries" of medical science. Actually it is perfectly natural. Penicillin is an antibiotic derived from fungi.

It was "discovered" (by accident) that blue-green mould, mould like which grow on bread, grew in the open air on a petri dish and it killed Staphylococcus that had been in the dish.

Many first called him a nut for "thinking eating mould can cure anything".

Nature is your vast laboratory. Literally, laboratory as in toilet. Everything, including your body, is "cast off". The vast rainforests being destroyed contain the cure for AIDS. Dirt contains all the cures somewhere if you look and accept the fact that man or women really do not invent anything but just discover what is already there and then meld it one way or another. The nuclear bomb was not invented. It was already there. Radioactive waste will one day be found, in the right dosage under the right colored light in the right temperature, to cure cancer instead of causing it.

Skunk pee pee is used in the most expensive of French perfumes, and musk is cast off from many animals used to spread out the added scents in all sorts of things women throw and spray all over their body at $500 dollars a bottle.

About half the drugs we depend on in our daily lives come directly from the natural world.

You are eating bugs when you take some of your medicines. The waste of some snails are in some of your medicines.

Most statin drugs you take to save your life is mold that grows on orange rinds.

Exenatide used to treat Type 2 diabetes is gila monster saliva.

Rapacmycin is a miracle drug from your HMO. It is dirt found on Easter Island. It is an immune suppressing agent, also used as mud to coat stents put in your body such as used on heart patients.

I take a little bit of cobra venom everyday. But Shiva drank so much venom and poison it stained His throat blue. One can say He saved the world from poison. Or was he teaching us something?

That is true - and there are boatloads of potential natural cures in a rapidly disappearing rainforest. I just think there ought to be a sizable amount of research done on anything that we put into our bodies.

God gave us the amazing gift that is our mind. I think she would want us to use it.

For a second time, think more carefully Fireside.

There is more bacteria and germs on your keyboard than in Mother Cow urine.

A consumer advocacy group commissioned the tests in which British microbiologist James Francis took a swab to 33 keyboards, a toilet seat and a toilet door handle at the publication's London office in January.

Francis then tested the swabs to see what nasty germs he managed to pick up. He found that four of the keyboards tested were potential health hazards -- and one had levels of germs five times higher than that found on the toilet seat.

I have no doubt there are more bacteria on my keyboard than in cow urine. My doubt has to do with there being anything beneficial in urine. Licking my keyboard might make me sick while drinking cow urine does nothing, but neither has been proven to cure cancer either. I question the need to drink cow urine at all. But I am open to discoveries and studies of any benefits if they are to be had. Until then I'll do my best to use what I know works.

You are free to do whatever you want. I'm only responding because you asked what others thought. I don't want to convince you of anything, but like Vinayaka I feel compelled to respond so that readers know there is more than one way to look at an issue from a Hindu perspective.

EDIT: I'm clearly in the minority on this though, so now that I've said my part I'll tap out of the conversation.

I think toxicity of food is destroyed by digestive acids or in the liver. I do not think urine and stool can be toxic, the toxicity having been broken down. The second option is better. Be vegetarian.

Well actually no, I wasn't necessarily soliciting the typical Big-Pharma response that is critical of Hindu traditions and Ayurvedic medicine with demands of "scientific studies" from a Western bias for Big-Pharma (scientific studies which are actually seldom made but very skeptical of anything that threatens the sales of some of the big brands), but such response also wasn't unexpected from Westerners in some cases who have more faith in non-Vedic methods both in science and spiritual.

My OP was to introduce without shame our Hindu traditions regarding Mother Cow both from the Ayurvedic view as well as spiritual side of this, the spiritual side is as curative as the material side.

The title was for Hindus, a Hindu perspective would have been nice but I saw little of that in a few of these responses, which is ok as anyone is invited to repond, even those who look upon Hindu traditions of someone like me as coming from a Hindu who does not know how to use their brain unless they use the Western "scientific method", but eventually the merit of so many of these traditions will ring true in the end as many scientists today have found for so many other things Hindu.

For those new Hindus who will be visiting India, I wouldn't recommend demanding scientific "proof" of the benefits or validity of mantras, the priest may not appreciate it.

I am now several days into my regimen, and I am not dead yet. Good results in the past, I expect the same now and it is definetly having a positive spiritual rejuvenation. Will update you all in a year from now.

Believe it or not, but I find the above to be a very contextual response. I especially liked the correlation with Big-Pharma and the tendency for non-Pharma forms of medicine to be automatically held in scrutiny since they are not empirically validated (empiricism, after all, is foreign to Dharmic realities). I have to admit, the above is an interesting juxtaposition---well articulated, too. I never thought of Ayurveda in this way (which I find completely ironic, since I am very OCD about utilizing Hindu perspectives in trying to understand pretty much anything :p; how I missed that, I'll never know!).

I am becoming more conservative as I grow older, and looking for Hindu medicines.

Cow urine has many benefits - I have used it in the past with good results, and now I am on a daily regimen using Gomata brand Ghanavati dehydrated cow urine that is in small pea size pills that look like little opium balls. These come from Vrindavan, India. Proceeds go to cow seva. I take one "pill" a day, though typically one should take two, with water.

They come in a special sealed bottle with twist cap and then a plastic plug, sort of stinky a bit when you open the plug but in the bottle the odor is blocked and the "pills" stay fresh.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) recommends urine collected from a female cow. I assume these pills of mine, which I order from eBay, are from a female cow but I am not sure, they come from ISKCON in India. I like these Gomata products as they are pure, ample supply, and come in dehydrated form but you can get liquid form, too.

The RSS has developed a cow-urine-based soft drink called Gomutra Ark, you can get it from eBay as well. Also there is the brand Divya Godhan Ark.

Ghanavati costs about $10 dollars for 120 pills.

Studies published in the journal Ancient Science of Life suggested rats with diabetes that were fed Gomutra Ark had significantly improvement in blood sugar control.

But I take it because I noticed my already elevated dreams that mostly are spiritual in nature are enhanced two full.

I do not get migraines, but it is claimed it helps. But I do notice almost an aspirin effect. Also I feel a "flow" going through my blood and a meditative feeling, also I sort of want to laugh. Odd. I take the pill in the evening because I take a tiny bit of cobra or pit viper venom in the morning.

It is claimed it helps with the tri-dosas. Interesting fact, when a scientific analysis was done on ark or ghanavati, gold (not kidding) was found in the cow urine. I mean the actual gold metal, though in very trace amounts.

I take it for its properties to help with cancer. I do not know if it works, since I do not have cancer. It definetly gives a "meditative" feeling, and like I said initially after 10 minutes I notice I might want to laugh.

Take at your own risk, but I feel confident in this tradition. But it is suppose to have the ability to "attract up to 5% of the frequencies of all the Deities in the universe". Definetly I dream Deities, also I feel sort of like "Shiva is around". The "flow" is also almost like both cold and warm combined very slight tingles, so there is no question it has a medical effect. Ayurvedic doctors state it helps with diabetes, fits, cancer, migraine, or if you "feel sad or down".

Here is a picture of what the "pills" look like:

Cow urine is extremely helpful for cure against skin allergies and digestion problems. My one friend had problem related to digestive system, an ayurvedic doctor suggested him cow urine and in just two weeks his problem was cured to great extent. Cow urine is also used in many other Ayurvedic medicine. I can guarantee, it has no adverse effect on health.

Lol.
Actually I've heard that some people are prescribed medically human faeces to help with digestion as it provides digestive enzymes.
Parts of the world recycle urine to turn it into drinking water and some people spend a fortune on coffee that's come out of cat faeces.
So poop and pee can be good at times.

They are just not my cup of tea...

Human faeces from close relatives or people that you may happen to live with can be used in what's called a 'faecal transplant'. It is used in cases where antibiotics have destroyed a person's natural intestinal flora or in cases of certain bacterial overload.

This is done through either an enema or the person has a nasogastric tube passed from the nose into the stomach. Yes, we feed people pool but it is very, very good for them and is only done as a last resort.
