In 1963. :D

Don't have a debate topic, but I still figured this was the right place for this.
Hmmmm, OK: do you consider his arrest for activism in 1963 a point in his favor or a smudge on his record.
I think it's a big point to his credit.
I'm so on top of current events that I saw right thru yer mischievous title!
Meh....I don't care if he was arrested long ago.
He can't rest on his laurels.
What illegality has he committed lately?
He'd better get crack'n if he wants to keep up with Hillary.

What's a laurel? I can't find a meaning on Google that makes sense with this context.

It's an idiom.
To rest on one's laurels is to take pride in past achievements, & to make no effort thereafter.
"Etymology: based on the literal meaning of laurels (a ring of leaves worn on the head in ancient times as a symbol of victory)"

Jill Stein has been arrested on a regular basis for protests and activism. ;) How's that for not resting on laurels? Hello, she was arrested and strapped to a chair for hours for showing up and sitting outside a presidential debate just a few years ago. Not to mention all the environmental protests and more she's continuously at. If someone gets points for being arrested for being an activist this woman should be honored.

No, she loses points with me.
Why?
Because she gets so little publicity from stunts which sound so uncomfortable.
Contrast her with Trump.
All he need do is insult someone, & he gets oodles of free press coverage.
I do like her last name though.

Why would anyone want to be compared with a stupid snarling dog? Trump may bark a lot and sound like an impressive watchdog to have, but he still just chases squirrels, cars, and his own damn tail.

He just might become top dog.
Which would make Jill his.....well.....you know.

Politics is a rough world.
And Jill Stein better up her game.
Or she'll just remain another loser like us Libertarians.

The sheer idea of Trump actually becoming president scares me. Literally scares me. Like no other candidate has ever done before. I've not liked other candidates in the past, thought they were going to mess things up, but Trump goes beyond that. I truly think his stupidity and ego could easily cause a war of such mass destruction that I want to run away. Far away. And I still don't know if it would ever be far enough.

I think he's very smart guy.
Even his being abrasive is attractive.....after tolerating all the others who lie to me with fake smiles.
I find him better than the competition in some ways, & worse in others.
But he's far from being my candidate because of his agendas....

But Hillary looks even worse.

I don't agree. Hillary is not perfect by any stretch, but she is hands down better than Trump. Anything is better than Trump though. Crap, I'd vote for my insane abusive first husband before I'd vote for Trump. That's how much Trump makes my skin crawl.

And, no, not old enough for Nixon memories. Turn 40 in a little over a month. Though, even with what I've read about Nixon, I still don't see how he could be as scary as Trump.

I think one of the scariest things about him is the fact that there are so many in this country that support him so adamantly. It's like an epidemic of hateful stupidity on a massive scale. Now that is truly frightening.

The real question is which is worse (or better, for those who like one).
Criticism of one in isolation means little.
The context which matters is the choice between alternatives.
One perspective.....
Trump is a social conservative (not a severe one) who might be a loose cannon.
Hillary has a record of social conservatisem too, & being pro-first-strike war, bigotry, & big government, & secrecy, & authoritarianism.
What I see in Trump's fervent critics is that the lens thru which they view him, they won't turn on their own.
They'll vote in someone they don't want to observe, lest they see that they favor what they ostensibly oppose.

Trump certainly is a hypocrite regarding his stance on keeping jobs in America. His entire clothing line is manufactured in China or Mexico. I'm surprised he isn't called out more on this issue.

This is why I want Trump to be the Republican nominee.

I think the only reason Trump has been so successful has been the lack of credibility on the republican side of the aisle. There are too many issues that, when/if brought up on the debate stage, nobody wants to dig too deep in for fear of kicking their own ***.

This is something Bernie is good at. He doesn't attack in the traditional sense. He very calmly ask questions that make you think.

I could see him saying something like, " I like Mr Trump, he's a colorful guy. But why is it that a man who says he wants to save jobs, sends so many overseas? I'm just saying..."

This is always an interesting problem, ie, that one plays the game according to the rules, but one thinks the rules should be different.
Is it hypocrisy?
I don't know, in his case.
But It could also be the opposite if one wants to change the rules by which one plays, all for the betterment of society.

I face such things.....
I play taxation games for my benefit, but I'd like to change the rules so that such games aren't incentivized.
