Black Mass in Oklahoma Today.

A parody of the Catholic Mass that denounces God and Christ and praises Satan. It's mostly a joke that's done for theatrical purposes.

Actually, it is my understanding that this group does not consider it a joke, but considers it to actually be a religious event, with the intent being the inversion of the Catholic mass.

Here's a news story from a local station: Satanic black mass seeks to free people from influence of God, organizer says - Tulsa World: Religion

Praise Jesus it isn't a group of Muslims being so offended.

Yah, I wonder what would have happened if someone had organized a "Draw a Funny Caricature of Muhammed" gathering? Would they have been granted permission? Or would that, somehow, constitute "hate activity," while a "black mass" is merely "religious expression?" :areyoucra

Unless you founded a religion where drawing funny caricatures of Muhammad was an actual part of the practice, I doubt they'd be lenient.

Depends on the Satanist.

Replace "satanist" with "Christian" and "demon" with "Jesus" and you'll find that statement highly offensive.

A religion made to mock another should never be taken seriously.
Any religion designed for acting over believing is ridiculous when given the title of religion. It's not a religion. It sounds more like a fiesta for Harry potter fanatics.

Sorry. I thought you didn't, since you answered the question about what is a black mass with this.

Yeah, I shouldn't have generalized. Some Satanists do take it seriously, seeing it as a form of spiritual warfare and a way to help free the psyche of those taking part in it from Christianity. But it's not as big a part of modern Satanism as people may think and it's not performed that much.

They can do what they want, it is a free country. And I have a right to not want to attend such a thing and wouldn't even if it was nearby.

Satanism isn't made to mock Christianity. Yes, there's more immature types who do take up Satanism as a way to flip off Christianity and enjoy the shock factor of it. However, there are also much more mature Satanists who follow it as a deep and meaningful form of spirituality with a well-developed theology and set of practices. I have been a Satanist before and I put a lot of thought into it and did a lot of research into religion, the occult, history and psychology. It's insulting to just write all that off as being a joke.

The problem with religion is that there is no way to distinguish between sincere beliefs and using the system.
Religionists expect to be exempt from morality when their beliefs are immoral, but they don't extend reciprocal laxity to other people.

If satanism is a necessary step for ones spiritual journey, like perhaps it was for you, then I do apologize for insulting that hurdle on your path that you overcame. Giving the impression, on the other hand, that satanism should be as respectable as Christianity, is blasphemy. It's blashemous to every religion, even those without a diety, because it should be nothing more than a hurdle for anyone. A religion that doesn't promote spiritual growth, imo is not respectable. If, on the other hand, as you said, it's a nothing more than a door to promote it, than that's all it should be, a door and then eventually a hurdle. Nothing more, especially to a Christian.

You really don't understand much about Satanism and are misinterpreting my words. The Left Hand Path is all about personal growth. They are religions and philsophies centered around the development of the Self. The spiritual versions of it usually have, as a goal, the eventual deification of the practitioner and a deep spiritual vision. Many of these forms of Satanism, Setianism and Luciferianism are revivals of pre-Christian practices under a modern guise. You could say that the LHP is the fast track to enlightenment/apotheosis because they do not shun the shadow side of human nature as the mainstream religions do, but freely explore it and integrate it creating the balance necessary for illumination.

Will there be a virgin sacrifice(s) or orgy?

(I'm not really serious with that question.)
