Black Pope

When the day comes, where there is a Black pope, will it change anything about כatholicism from a social and population perspective?

I mean, there are people that think jesus is white and think that pope can perform miracles like the former pope curing a French nuns Parkinson's Disease. It's' sad but true. This is not about attacking the pope but would this race change in the appearance of the pope have effect on the masses that follow the church?

Actually when the decision about the next pope was being considered, Cardinal Peter Turkson, a black pope was considered? Would this decision have changed the dynamics of the כatholic church?

This is not about Superior General of the Society of Jesus. Some historians believe that there already a black pope?

What about another race? Chinese pope? How would this affect the history of supporting discrimination and race genocide by the church?

To be honest, if there was an African Pope, they would likely be way, way more conservative than Benedict XVI was.

Do you think that would be a must just because he is African and any positive changes would be severely criticized? Or would he just being christian african would already make him backwards minded? What about an african american pope where people tend to be more progressive.

African Christians tend to be more conservative. There's also a lot of paranoia in those parts of the world and they have a kneejerk reaction to "Western liberalism".

I don't know of any black American clergy who could be considered for the papacy.

What? Me worry?

Or a pope with a little stand-up comedy in his background. "The Pope and two rabbis walked into a bar....." (Please forgive this post. I am coming off a Christmas cookie high and couldn't help myself.)

There may already have been "black popes", I mean there certainly have been African ones. Pope Gelasius I, Pope Militiades and Pope Victor I all came from North Africa in the Roman era. We have no records of their skin colour that I know of.

Read:

"...Saint Victor I (186) was the first pope identified as an African; his racial identity is not clearly established...Two other early popes, who, like Saint Victor I, became saints, are also of African origin - Saint Militiades (311-14) and Saint Gelasius (992-96)..."

I was thinking the same thing but the skin color factor was not documented. Maybe though? I see that as being a bigger deal back then if it really happened.

I hate to disappoint you but I don't think the color of the Pope has anything to do with changing the Church. The Church was created with political purposes in mind (please do some research on how the church came to exist) and one man alone won't be able to change it, no matter the color of his skin or what a nice person he might be.

That's your opinion. I think that it would heavily affect the influence of the church in many different ways. I strongly believe that if a pope of color was elected, the smallest controversial events would be highlighted significantly more then a non-color pope.

Nah...they seem fixated on Catholics.
You'd be able to discern an atheist by his wackier than standard hat.

It would certainly show a diversity, wouldn't it?

It may inspire women to become a pope as well, along with other minorities. But soon enough, I wouldn't be surprised if the title of pope will be taken away once abused to a certain degree.

I think if the non-catholic population overthrew the vatican, the crazies would still figure out a way to resurrect it. The irony.
