Boycott Olympics in China?

Olympic Boycotts are useless gestures of protest. I'd prefer our Olympiads and U.S. diplomats enjoying themselves in Beijing along with President Xi Jinping, the Central Committee and invited company.

Clarification question. Do you think China hasn't done anything worthy of a boycott? Or do you think it just may not be the appropriate venue? (By the way, I am not trying to pigeon hole you into an argument you aren't making. Feel free to dismiss these questions at baseline, I am just curious if you would be willing to expand a bit more.)

We sure can! Nevertheless, we, as a country, have the opportunity to make a statement here. Other nations are more than welcome to make a similar stance against our government should we host events in the future.

I think the International Olympic Committee should establish moral guidelines for nations that want to host the games. If the nations have dubious moral policies, then it's their problem that they don't get the games. If they want the games, then clean up their act.

Give you a wild guess what nation currently sits as one the VPs in the IOC. Hint: It isn't the US

The US would never be able to compete if moral guidelines were established.

If it would inspire action within the government to correct our own problems, I would be okay with this. The gawking rabble on Facebook would be mad, though.

There's few moral absolutes so who is to be the non-hypocritical judge to make that decision? Do boycotts lead to changes in a government's behaviour? If it is boycotted I feel sorry for all the athletes who have worked towards participation.

Yes, it's unlikely that a 40-something amateur XC mountain biker who aspires to be mid-pack for his age group would even qualify, but it's the principle that matters.

Please let us recognize China"s valiant human rights record of improving the living conditions, health and overall well being of most Chinese people. .I am confident they will be worthy host of the 2022 winter Olympics
