California wants to break free and form their own liberal utopia.

I do not believe the two are connected, because even though this year is the worst in recent history, the fires are a part of California history.
But federal disaster relief money would be a factor,
particularly since Californiastan might be facing
increased fire threats.

It can't happen, for obvious reasons, but it would be nice. Then we could keep all our own tax money and watch as Uncle Sam weeps from the loses in revenue.
And I am LOVING it here. Jobs galore, many opportunities in my field at my degree level, better roads, and people here are so way more live-and-let and laid back than the Deep Red Indiana. Nowhere is perfect, but the "Conservative Utopia" of Indiana is a pretty crappy state. And of there is also the fact Red states tend to take more than Blue states in welfare. So, yeah, let California break away and America will see how important this "Liberal Utopia" is to the Union. But, more pistachios for me.

I don't really see California as all that liberal.

Back in the 70s, they passed prop 13, protecting the rich from property taxes. That's not "liberal".
Much more recently, they passed a Constitutional amendment restricting legal marriage to straight people, prop 8. That's not "liberal".

California is not liberal. It's diverse. I realize that ideologues can't see the difference, but it's obvious to the rest of us.
